Lodger underpaying by 31p, would you make a fuss?

No - if I heard of a tenant demanding a 31p reduction in rent I'd PMSL too. :rotfl:0

To people saying OP should not make a fuss, where SHOULD you draw the line then? 50p? £1? £5? £50?0

Oh so it is the tenant/landlord relationship that makes you PMSL! Would it be an acceptable thing to round all bills down to the nearest pound and if so why not down to the nearest ten pounds? I agree it is a small amount but if an objection is raised one is clearly in the wrong not to pay the correct amount.0 -
..When you're sharing a house with someone, anyone there has to be give and take.
.
Does the lodger turn up at Tesco's 31 p short? The petrol station? Maybe the lodger could also underpay her credit card by 31p and check what happens there. If you agree to pay a set amount, then you should stand by that agreement.
I bet this lodger is one of those who never has enough cash on them to stand their round in the pub but makes sure that their glass needs a refill when its anyone else's turn...................0 -
your plight sounds so terrible, would you like us to start a collection for you, so that you don't feel out of pocket by 31 pence.0

No, but presumably 31p is a very small fraction of what they're paying. If you're buying a pint, say, 31p is quite a large proportion.
As a proportion of rent and bills, it's tiny.
More to the point, this isn't a standard landlord & tenant relationship - it's a lodger - someone who lives in your house.
Are you going to fight them every time they use too much toilet roll? Or leave the light on?
Let alone how you sort out things like communal phone blls.
There has to be a bit of give and take with a lodger or you'd just drive each mad.
I think it's really, really petty, actually. It's quite possible that this tenant is an annoying/bad tenant in other ways.
But on this particular issue, as posted, the OP just comes across as really petty, frankly.0 -

Can't help feeling both sides are being petty but as far as right from wrong the OP, petty or not, is clearly in the right. I don't think the OP is alone though in sometimes being irritated by petty things, my advice would be not to do anything about it for a week or too and in all probability the OPs irritation will have subsided.0 -
I'm still absolutely shocked, 31 pence short!
i really feel sorry for the OP. the pain and anguish the OP must be going through must be unbearable; i do not know how she copes. i wish her every success in getting her 31 pence back and justice been served.
P.S. don't forget to charge them interest too!0 -
I'd get rid now.
yes it is only 31p. but it's your home and they are taking the pee
You can ask and argue but if they're being funny then get rid. Cos no doubt it'll only be your walls/floor/coffee/loo roll etc next0
