Gee whiz! The country's on its knees, the government mortgaging our grandchildrens' future for hundreds of billions of pounds to bail out the banks, and you're worried about 31 measly pence! Get real tight wad please!0

Increase the rent buy a £5 a month.0

31P I can't believe you even posted to ask. 31p come on get a life..0

I got the impression to begin with that you didn't like your lodger and I think it's best to go with a gut instinct there, afterall, they are living in the same house as you.
However you say that she is very clean, which is worth more than 31p IMO.
If you don't like her, though, just get rid, that is the benefit with a lodger, the trouble is that any replacement is likely to be worse, not better.0 -
Why even bother to post about 31p nevermind make a fuss?0

Actually 31p per month from everyone in the country is over £200 million per annum or six times approximately of keeping the monarchy. I think you would find that most people (and being a landlord does not make one any different in this respect) would be irritated by having to wrongly dish out £31p per month just as they seem to be irritated (neigh, very angry) by MPs expenses which, similar to the monarchy, are unlikely to be costing them anything like 31p per month.0 -
Why is the OP the tightwad here?
The lodger asked for a rent reduction the day they moved in
The lodger is not fulfilling their contractual obligation
The lodger is asking to rent out the spare room and pay less towards the bills while the OP pays more

tbh, i would be embarrassed to ask for the 31p, but it would depend on the lodger. if i felt she was testing me or deliberately ignoring me i would be p***ed off enough to make an issue of it.0

Are you sure that you are not labelling the OP as a miserable so and so because the OP is a landlord and not because of the amount in question and the principle?0
