Lodger underpaying by 31p, would you make a fuss?

I see. So if I was renting a house from you at £500 per month and underpaid by £2.50 each and every month then you wouldn't "quibble" at it and just let it go? I find that very hard to believe, personally...
Rob
This is just a ridiculous argument as the amount underpaid is not £2.50, you can take it the other way and say if you were owed 20p and they only paid you back 19p would you complain about the penny?
Frankly its 31p I am astounded that any people on here are on the OP's side about this!
It must be a joke thread! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Thanks for the life story Carol
but you still haven't answered the question. What amount is acceptable to underpay and what isn't ? How much simpler does this have to be?
If I, as your lodger, underpaid you by £1 every month would you ignore it?
If I, as your lodger, underpaid you by £5 every month would you ignore it?
If I, as your lodger, underpaid you by £25 every month would you ignore it?
You're all so quick to scoff at 31p so let's see the same quickness for other amounts.
I'll tell you why none of you are prepared to answer it - it's because you will say 31p is okay but £5 isn't, and then when questioned why one is okay and the other is not, you won't have anything to back up your argument hence making you look incredibly stupid.
Rob
Re-read my post - I did answer your question.
The answer is - in case you got bogged down in my 'life story' as you choose to call it -that there is no fixed amount that is is OK to ignore - I'd ignore £100 if it was going to take me a month to reclaim it, but not ignore 31p if it took seconds.
It's the hourly rate that matters to me.
If she'd spoken to her tenant when she had her purse out ang got 31p immediately, then fair enough.
But I wouldn't waste time on emails, threads etc.
Can't see how you misunderstood that in my first explanation.
Seems crystal clear to me.0 -
we're not still banging on about 31p are we ?????0

Yes, apparently it is categorically not an amount to be quibbled about.
However those same people who see it as such a non-issue seem to be spending loads of time on this thread posting quibbles about how it is not to be quibbled about and how they simply don't have time to quibble about it. :rolleyes:0 -

At the end of the day a contract is a contract, an amount is an amount for a reason.
She wouldn't get away with this if it was a credit card, loan etc.
If the minimum payment was £5.00 and she paid £4.69 then a charge would be applied.0 -

If everyone started knocking off all sorts of random amounts off bills...I'm sure we could soon rack up some savings, knocking 30p, £1, £2.50 here and there....then what would be the point of having a bill if we just paid what we liked?0 -
