Only the other night I had a dream (no.. absolute nothing ghey)... anyway by chance was speaking to someone in passing and amazingly came to realise who we were on forums - him being Max. Managed to convinced him to STR and someone overheard, asked whereabouts, and said they had cash and wanted to buy - so long as he could move near immediately. Then his mobile rang offering him a job 80 miles away which he was eager to take. Just as I was thinking of how great it was going to be to let the forum know this incredible turn of events... woke up.

So on a deeper level I think my intentions are very honest, if I'm worrying about someone else, and want a good outcome for them.

Thats lovely. Feeling all warm and fuzzy but that maybe the pinot.

Also glad I'm not the only one that dreams about people from the forum!

It all feels a bit "Weimar" to me.
I would rather own bricks and mortar than bank notes over printed in millions.

PS Dopster, you don't qualify for a soft loan from the Bank of M&D? (No - other way around)

I get what you're saying, if they were to monetise the debts - but it is so illogical.. as that path would bring ruin on so many people - including property owners. Would rules of law still apply? Would businesses continue trading?

You'd hope government/debtors would come to terms with creditors before that, and keep the economy running, instead of destroying everything. (There is a risk of course in cash - but I don't see it as hyperinflation.. perhaps deposits converted to government issue bonds ect)

From a US perspective (which sort of applies here)
The result would be just the opposite of what is wanted. Runaway rates would collapse the economy, especially the real estate sector, which depends upon the ready availability of credit.

While nominal values of real estate would rise, the gains would be offset by devastating losses in financial assets. The multi-trillion-dollar bond markets would be battered. So would capital spending by state and local governments, which is largely financed in bond markets.

The losses implied by forced reinflation would cripple an advanced economy. That is why no country that borrows in its own currency has ever followed such a course, especially when it depends of a major inflow of foreign dollars to finance current needs, as the United States does now. There is nothing to stop anyone from selling Treasury debt and sending proceeds overseas at the speed of light.

As Kent Davis has rightly said, "The quickest way Uncle Same can run out of money is to print more of it. In today's environment, the markets can withhold a trillion dollars quicker than government can print it."

It's not really much fun for anyone else, more of a personal thing. Mainly puckering to be frank, but there.. I've gone and said too much.

It may be conch, but tbh Conk is perfect and will be my word for it from now on. Lord of the Flies and passing round the Conk shell - I love it.
