Brighthouse - OMG - the prices...

Just seen an ad by Melanie Sykes for Brighthouse.

Looked on their website and as an example, the washing machine, can buy it for say about £200 through a Club book, now look at their charges, totally crazy...

  • ...If you didn't know they are a an unscrupulous but entirely legal organisation who trade on the high st especially in low income areas...They target those with the least money (hence the £1 deposit) and then charge extortionate interest rates

    Shame on you Melanie Sykes

I certainly wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. Advertisement on a couple of times during primetime viewing (Corrie ad breaks) on ITV. Must be new as I've never seen them before.

I've been in one of their stores for work related reasons.

The store has nice comfy sofa's with cushions, and a filter coffee machine. It's lovely and welcoming and customers are asked to take a seat while the staff member makes them a drink. Rather than a sales talk, the service is tailored to be a friendly chat. The cash price or true cost of the item isn't mentioned as customers repeatidly get told the weekly payment which makes it seem really cheap.

It's not fair sucking people in like this, especially those who are on low incomes.
Here I go again on my own....

What really gets me is the price is dear enough just paying the basic rate but I guess most people would take out the extra service cover etc to cover themselves incase something happened to the appliance. What an absolute shower of ........!!!!! For what they are charging you could buy several blinking machines. Criminal, absolutely criminal...

the insuruance is apparently optional but its not, unless you have contents insurence you must have it or at least half the full amount in your bank account, but even then it is tricky of getting out of it.

My mum had LOADS of stuff from this place, in fact I think the house was furnished in it, from a 42" telly to the washing machine, it was the no credit check that sucked her in. Plus at first glance the weekly payments look cheap but thats onlt coz of the period its over.

There's a store near me, the sign in the window says 'typical APR 29.9%'. As if the prices weren't already high enough!

They tie you in for a fair old time don't they, like 3 years. Giving plenty of time for you to add on to the debt already. Just makes my blood boil.

I live in an area that is mostly quite deprived. I get junk in the letterbox from this lot and it really is shocking. It also means I get junkmail from Vanquis for their credit card with the extortionate interest rate. It's funny getting mailing for platinum cards and the Vanquis card on the same day, from one end of the spectrum to the other!

my sister bought some goods she didnt really need - hifi and that - but, when she was made redundant she couldnt always pay on time because her benefits were being messed about - she found out if you were late paying by even a day you got charged - these charges were then taken into account with interest too - very annoying when you can hardly afford to put food on the table........

anyways, shes now back in work but cannot get to pay till the saturday but her payment day is thursday but they wont alter it, so, she was paying late charges every time - now, i pay for her and she gives me it on the saturday - bloodsucking vultures they are.........
