Cancelling Sky and then rejoining.

Options
Apologies if this has been asked before but as Sky only seem to look after new customers and ignore loyal customers then I was wondering if we could get better deals by cancelling and then rejoining.

Is there anything in their terms and conditions preventing this ?

not sure about the answer to your question but have you tried telling them that you want to leave and go elsewhere? When I left Virgin to go to Sky, Virgin were offering me all kinds of incentives to stay, and Sky might do the same with you.

HI, i am having ongoing dispute with sky at the moment, we are moving house and they won't seem to reward to our loyalty to take them with us with a special deal or package but if we cancel the account which is in my name and ask for it in my partners they will give us new customer deals. My advice is do what i did, threaten to leave and go with virgin or similar and they will do their best to keep you, explain that virgin (or whoever) look after customers better, they will bend over backwards to keep you.

Yes, I've tried telling them I am considering cancelling (I have TWO accounts with them) but all I ended up with was an argument with a guy from their cancellations dept who wsa extremely patronising and condescending.

Bottom line is they didn't seem to care.

I can't get Virgin in my area so perhaps Sky already know this...

Sky don't seem to care about keeping people at the moment. I went to cancel my parents subscription and got the rudest person ever on the end of the line. No offer of a deal, just "That's the contract cancelled 30 days from now"

Was that the extent of the 'rudeness' or did he say something more?

No, assuming you are already out of contract, but I believe they would then class you as a 'returning customer' rather than a 'new customer'. And you would lose your service for a while of course.
It might work if you register in the name of another member of the household, but they would still be able to crosslink the postcode and address, so I doubt it.

I recently cancelled my sky when I was out of contract because I wanted sky+ and they would not offer me anything, so i was being cut of 30april and I rejoined as a new customer with one of the sky stalls that they have in the shoppping centers, I told them that I had just cancelled and hadn't even been cut off yet, they know a way round it so they set me up as a new customer with free sky+, multi room half price etc and a installation date of 27th april, that way I didn't lose any viewing time my original one went off 3 days after my new one started. I still did it in the same name, same add etc and I didn't have any problems just be honest with the guy on the stall and most will help you. Good Luck

I'm glad someone got some joy out of them but reading all this makes my blood boil.

Why can't Sky just play on a level playing field with us instead of us having to resort to all these games ?

You would have to wait 12 months to be classed as a new customer.
