Only joking. I have cancelled but I'm just worried that VM will carry on taking payments. What recourse do I have in that case then?

You would have to contact your card company, who will start a dispute process.

You should be okay with a reputable company. The main culprits are dodgy !!!!!! sites. Also, customers who close down their card account, then move without leaving a forwarding address, can run into trouble. The first they know about the continuous payments is when a debt collection agency contacts them, by which time their credit rating is shot.

I cancelled my Virgin TV & phone ~2 years ago. Gave my 30 days (think that's what it was) notice and they stopped taking payment after that. I cancelled because I was moving house and I moved in the middle of a month, so was due a part refund as I'd paid for the whole month in advance (by DD). I did have to chase them up myself for the refund of the part month, though!

Anyway, just posting to say I hope you don't have any problems. They didn't try and take any payments from me after the contract had finished, so hopefully you'll be the same. :)
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

    Cheers!
I hope not, their customer service is pretty dire at the best of times.

Had another charge taken from my credit card account this week by VM.

I rang them this morning and was told that the account had been rescheduled on 8 April after it was supposedly closed on the 23 March. I told them this was definitely not authorised by me and that I have email proof that it was closed on the 23rd.

They didn't argue (much) and agreed that I had been overcharged so they're sending me a refund cheque for £17.11 as the cc account has been closed. :T

You've certainly got to keep your eye on the ball with these people!

FYI, and anyone else reading this, the following companies seem rather keen on CPAs, but slow to cancel agreements:

AA subscription, McAfee, National Homestudy, Norton Anti virus, Sky
Perhaps, we should now add Virgin Media to this list

Received my refund cheque from Virgin this morning so hopefully that's the end of them at last but I'm keeping an eye on my CC account just in case...

Thanks once again to everyone for your help and advice.
