Can I block Virgin Media from taking payments from my Credit Card?

in Credit cards
I cancelled my Virgin Media broadband account in March and I want to block them from taking any more payments from my credit card account.
From what I've read, they're notorious for continuing to take payments after a contract has been terminated so I want to make sure this doesn't happen to me.
They've blocked me from updating my payment details, presumably they do this to make sure you don't stop final cancellation fees, etc.

That's the trouble with abbreviations.
Do you mean a CPA [continuous payment authority]?People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
I was just going to ask what it meant!
Yes I did.0 -
Then only Virgin Media can cancel that0

If you've arranged a regular payment from your current account or credit card termed a continuous payment authority [CPA], you can’t cancel it. Neither can your credit card provider or the bank. Only the company you've agreed to pay, in this case Virgin Media,
can cancel the agreement.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Thanks everyone for your advice. I was afraid that was going to be the answer. I'll just have to keep an eye on them.
Or cancel my credit card!0 -
Cancelling your credit card will not help0

If you cancel the credit card without contacting the payee, payments will continue to be charged to the closed account.
I would advise you to avoid CPAs to a credit or debit card, as you will have very little control and the bank has none either. It can cancel a direct debit for you at any time or you can do it yourself via internet or phone banking. However, if you've given a third party the continuous authority to debit your card, they will continue to do so even when an account is closed.
As the customer, you'll have to contact Virgin Media directly and ask them to cancel the agreement.
Very best

Only joking
I have cancelled but I'm just worried that VM will carry on taking payments.
What recourse do I have in that case then?0
