Ryanair Online Check-In Confusion

Can someone please explain the new check-in system that Ryanair are introducing on 20/5 please? Their website is completely unhelpful on this matter.
I understand that all bookings made after this date will be online check-in only and will cost £5 per person. Fine. But what is the position for those who are travelling after this date, but made bookings before it? I booked a flight in April for travel in October. So do I need to book in online, if so will I have to pay the extra £5, and how do I secure the priority boarding pass that I paid for with the original booking?
If I don't book in online, I am rather concerned that I will be asked to pay the £40 'airport check in charge' that they are introducing. Will this not apply for bookings made prior to 20/5?
Also, how will the bag drop system work?

If you chose on-line check in and weren't charged the £5, when you booked and paid for your flights, you will not have any more to pay. The priority boarding will show when you print your boarding cards after you have checked in on-line. It will say "priority" at the top right hand side of the print out, with a yellow background if you use a colour printer.

The only way you will have to pay more is if you amend the booking, add bags etc. or cannot fulfill the on-line check-in, faulty printer or whatever.

It is something they are phasing in and I don't think they are going to ask for additional fees retrospectively, businesses don't generally do that.
This is going to cause a lot of confusion and the airport staff are going to have a difficult summer trying to sort out problems that may arise, perhaps worth getting there earlier.

I think the point is they wont have any airport staff, well ryanair wont, and everyone else will be bombarded with questions which they will have no answers for.

But that's my whole point. When I booked, you couldn't choose online check-in, unless you were taking cabin baggage only. Anyone with hold baggage had to opt for airport check in anyway, which of course was free until now.

Check your itinerary for any check-in fees, if they aren't shown there you should be ok. See HERE for details of the various phases of the change to on-line check-in only. All costs are listed and it states will be charged at the time of booking. Also there will be no airport check-in from 1st October so it looks like you will have to do it on-line.

Thanks, yes it appears that I will have to check in online, it's not a problem as long as they don't try and charge me the £5 online check in fee.
I still don't see the logic in charging this at time of check in, whe don't they just add it at the time of booking?
Ryanair have obviously decided they're not interested in taking bookings by phone anymore as it is a tiny minority who don't book online.The people who are really going to be clobbered by this are those going away for more than 15 days, as they will have to find internet access while away in order to do their return check-in, as you can't do it more than 15 days ahead.

Hi I am new to the forum and would like to ask if anyone knows whether it is wise to buy flights now from ryanair to france or wait until their next sale. Does anyone know if a sale is imminent or will the prices go up? I want to travel in july.
