Gloss paint on walls

I have gloss paint on some of the walls in my kitchen and I'm going to get them skimmed as I intend just painting them. I didn't do this in the bathroom and I can see where the bumps are despite the decorator sanding everywhere before papering. Okay its probably only me that can see it but it annoys me.

I havent decided yet whether to paint the walls or use paper. I know in some areas the walls are uneven as a pantry was removed to make the kitchen bigger and where the batons were it is rough.
