mini bus driving on D1 category
I have the chance of a job driving a 16 seat mini bus that belongs to an industrial employment agency taking workers to different factory sites.
I will be an employee of the agency and receive a salary from said agency.
I have a category D1 on my licence with category restriction 1.
Can anybody tell me if this covers me for the above job?
Any help would be appreciated as I have found conflicting information on various web sites.

Yes, your licence will cover you. You'll probably have to do CPC.0

This seems to be really complicated, and depends in part on when you passed your test.
I think this government website probably has the definitive answer.
And I think the restriction 01 probably means you need to wear glasses... from here.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I've got it wrong. :beer:0 -
I think it depends on whether the agency workers pay (or have money deducted from their wages) the minibus lift.

CPC is for PSV and later this year, HGV drivers also. Shouldnt be needed for this.0

This is complicated if you are being paid to drive a bus and it is in your job description you need to pass a D1 test, even though you have a D1 on your licence this is only valid for charity family or something for which you are not paid .
I have looked into this as we had so much conflicting advice which resulted in us having to do the test my OH has recently done is test with the CPC , i have passed all the theory but my test is in two weeks!
It all comes down to are you paid to drive the bus, there are a couple of exemptions like charitys ,clubs etc .
But ring a driver training centre and they will advise you.0 -
I'd assume as it's not for hire or reward, they'd be ok to drive it on D1. It's not the op's minibus, he's an employee of the owners. The passengers are also employees of the owners so back to a previous post, if no moneys changing hands, its not for hire or reward.
Although I'd agree it's complex, if there was any doubt i'd also assume the agency would just hire someone with the relevent qualifications.0 -

2 assumptions that are common error
i) A lot of agencies charge their temps for transport
ii) Some agencies HAVE in the past hired people on the wrong licence & have had the wrong insurance.
Thats from experience...Not Again0 -
Yes i know what you're saying ,we are hire and reward so we are doing test but some school teachers have looked into this at the school where we occasionally drive their bus and they have been advised they do not need to do the test if it is not in thier job description and they only drive occasionally .
So I don't know but rules have recently changed and i think this is the way it is heading so technically i think he needs it but don't know for sure!
If he's been offered the job hopefully his employers have thought about this .
Why can't everything be black and white!0 -

The OP will know if these assumptions are correct or not and will be able to judge whether its for hire or reward or not.
If my assumptions are wrong, they will know that it IS for hire or reward and their licence doesnt cover them.
I've never dealt with agencies myself, but anyone I know that has, didnt pay for their travel. Some went to the original place the agency employed them at and were then (mini)bussed to another of the companies factories, others were picked up and taken to wherever the job was.0 -

The OP made no mention of working for free, so it is for hire or reward.
It's a real complex part of legislation. If your friend were to have a lift in your car and gave you a can of beer to compensate for your time or petrol. That is classed as a reward and therefore could invalidate your insurance for the journey.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
