Chicken stock to soup

I tend to just chuck whatever veg I've got lying around into the pot with the stock/chicken in and leave at that!
You could add some rice, lentils, noodles, barley etc if you want it a bit thicker. HTHGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

I would rather make the stock up into a soup now than freeze it, as I doubt that I would use it later (unless maybe for gravy at Christmas?) I am planning on making up the soup & then freezing it. A thick soup would be nice, but I have no preference really.
can I add the cabbage? just that you dont see many soup recipes with cabbage?0 -
Hi this is my receipe for hearty chicken soup, our favourite monday dish!
Put the carcas on to simmer for approx an hour,
chop up onion and carrot
drain carcass and add carrot, onion to stock (I sometimes add a chicken stock cube for more taste)
pick all meat off chicken bones and add to soup with salt pepper milk and a dollop of butter
serve with home made bread!
You could also add noodles, but to turn it into a main meal and I add rice at the same time I add the onion and carrot. This is our favourite way of having it, so filling and warming, and I think it works out as £2 max for a meal to feed 6 of us!!Ideas, help and advice always welcome, judgements and assumptions are not!!:happyhearMarrying my Mr Perfect 20130 -

Yes, you can add cabbage, shredded to little pieces. I actually like it in mine. But then we love steamed cabbage as a side veg and this is not much different!0

Thanks again everyone!
I have actually been very MSE - I have blitzed all the left over veg from Sundays roast (was going to make bubble & squeak but have some in the freezer already) then added the little bit of stir-fry that was left over from last nights tea. The stir fry had bits of chopped up bacon in it, veg & onion. I have also added a tin of toms. Just cooking "out" the toms but looking forward to some for lunch tomorrow (and possibly dinner lol)
I really should join the food waste challenge but I am too scared to find out how much money we waste on food!0 -
Come and join in - it's an eye opener believe me!
I went for £10 as a starting point (oh I'll never get to that) figure and am quite high already (thanks to a dodgy bit of mince from the freezer!)
However, it has made me much more conscious of what I've got lying around and have thrown out a lot less than usual so that's a step in the right direction.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
