Sirbendy - I bought a 4 yr old Astra 1.7 CDTi from a dealer I would not go near with a bargepole ever again....bunch of sharks IMO!!

The service history which was in the wallet containing the driver and audio manuals when I test drove the car showed that the car had been serviced regularly at at the right intervals, which hooked me in and convinced me the engine had been looked after.

However, since picking up the car, which had to have an MOT and service before the dealer released it, this service history has been replaced with another very different service booklet with completely different service stamps in it and the car according to this went 33,000 (18 months) without a service  I was so upset when I discovered this (but not til a couple days after having the car and wanting to investigate about it security system looked through the booklets wallet again, I was shocked and stunned to find a different service booklet there ), it's not the only problem I've had with this dealer, but this event was definately bizarre and totally unexpected, it makes me so upset and angry to have been duped like this!

Within the space of the booklet for the 3rd service there is a note written in as such:
*Toothed belt changed at 50141 20/9/08.
To make things worse the mileage entered is written over tippex too?!!
The previous service was dated 1/12/07 and so the car was only a few months short of needing it's next service which obviously didn't get done because there is no record other than the toothed belt insertion.

Never ever buy a car from Motor City, they don't just operate in my neck of the woods so be warned they are a large chain who will go to any lengths to sell a car to unsuspecting customers, lying cheating B@st@rds!..........Sorry, excuse the language!:o

With all the hassle I've had from them I wish I could just push the car back in their faces and claim my money back, but then that would not only leave me without a car but without any money too?!!!(all my excess cash put down as a deposit!) until I could fight and hopefully win in court?!!!!!! and any way whose got time in their life to take on a such a fight?!!! Maddening!!

Bet you're sorry you asked now! :o

I'm just hoping that the car has come to no long-term damage and that the engine is reliable and economic over the next couple of years, and then I will be able to laugh it off sometime in the future, until then, I feel like I've been mugged!!!

I got the info pack with mine as well...Previous owner had made his own notes on "running replacements" as well, so they couldn't change the book without being obvious.

Vx seem to say 80000 miles or 8 years for the belt on mine..it's done 54000 but is 9 years old on docs, and 8 according to the onboard systems, so it's due on time basis anyway.

That's the only odd thing I've found though..the fact it was registered in Nov 2000, but the onboard systems and chassis number report it as being a 2001 vehicle.

My Astra seems to have had the "flex" service program set...the car dictates when it needs a service..it's telling me the next one is at 74000 (20000 mile services? Psh). I think I might ignore that recommendation and do it every 6-12000.

I don't even know anything about a flex service program?!
says toothed belt changed at 50141 (which is written over tippex!!) dated 20/9/08 and the cars mileage at 11/5/09 was 50408, so this would mean the car's only done 267 miles in the past seven and a half months?!!

There was a service history within the glove compartment tucked up with the driver and audio manual when I took it for a test drive and had a quick look on the service pages then (stupidly didn't check if there was a registration mark against it, not that I can remember anyway) and at that time there were three regular service stamps from the leics branch of their dealership at appropriate mileage and time intervals, so where's this booklet sprung from, there is no registration mark on this one so could relate to any car on the planet?!
