Company In Administration - Still got Company Car 3 months on

Hi Everyone,

Wonder if someone can help me with my problem, The company that i was working for went into Administration in February, Part of the company was then bought out however not my department and so therefore i was made redundant. The thing is i still have my company car, I believe it is leased but dont know the name of the leasing company, I received an email from my former company just after i was made redundant informing not to drive the vehicle as the insurance had been cancelled an that the lease company would be in touch to arrange collection. I have since been in touch with my former company again to ask when it is going to get picked up as it is in my way and i cant move it due to having no insurance, I was told they would chase it up with the administrator but as yet i have still heard nothing.

The problem is the vehicle is on my drive and leaves me no room to park my own car, what i would like to know is:-

Would it be legal for me to insure it myself and use it for my own personal use until the lease company finally pick it up?

If i cannot use it myself, Could i maybe charge the leaing company storage as its causing me problems not being able to move it from my drive?

The vehicle is only a few months old and i would imagine was £20k+ so suprised they haven't been to collect straight away as the lease company will not have received any money for months.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks

  • Have a look in the pack that contains the service manual, there is likely to be details of the lease company.

Then ring them & tell them you are going to park it in the road as it is no longer your responsibility.

It will be recovered faster than your MP paying money back for illegal expenses.

Have a look on the number plates. Quite often the company name is on there. Or on the back of the tax disc holder.

    ie leaseplan etc

or go to your local police station and ask if they can find out for you.

Or park it somewhere dodgy. If the lease company get a ticket they can hardly take it out of your earnings can they?

Oh, and I hope you have luck with a new job soon, unemployment sucks big time

You cannot drive it as you would be driving without the owners permission.

The owners must be racking up some parking charges at £10 per day :D

The only info i can find in/on the vehicle is a company called Sunwin which is on the number plates but i believe they are the suppliers of the vehicle not the leasing company

Am i allowed to charge them for storage? Would i have to inform them first?

    Thanks

    Sunwin are a dealer.

    Try looking:

    in the service book/ pack
    on a Pre-delivery inspection sheet
    on a delivery sheet.
    Breakdown Recovery details

Also if you have had it serviced somewhere they will have details of the lease company.

If none of the above works tell your dealer it need to be booked in for a service & get them to check the lease details to make sure it will be financed. I wont be authorised & they will give you the details.

    It means its not insured.

If the OP is fully comp on another similar vehicle he could drive it & park it where the sun dont shine...

The strange thing is that the company i worked for booked all of their vehicles into a local garage for servicing (not main dealer) and paid for it on our company CC, they had no breakdown cover (I know as a collegues vehicle broke down over Christmas and the company had to pay £500 for recovery). I would have assumed that these things would have been covered by the leasing company?? The insurance was booked in one of the Directors names and i was a named driver. Also i cannot find anything with the lease companies details on in the car. It all seems very strange for a leased vehicle, I have had leased vehicles in the past from other companies i have worked for and everything has been covered by them (Any problems accident, repairs, servicing etc i just phoned the lease company and they sorted it).

Also when i last spoke to my company they said they would contact the Administrators in regard to getting the vehicle picked up? I have had all the info for each of the creditors from the administrators as the company still owe me money but i cant find a leasing company listed.

I wouldnt mind the vehicle being here if i could insure it and use it myself until they collected it or if i could charge them for keeping it, Its been stood still on my drive for 3 months now which cant be doing the vehicle any good.
