International bank transfer ?

I won a bid for a shirt from Germany at the weekend and stupidly didn't check that it had a paypal option - it didn't.

The German seller now wants an international bank transfer as payment. I've got a lot of alarm bells ringing on this one and suspect that even if I do it I'll get hit by bank charges.

Has anyone got experience of this please ?

I'm starting to think I may have to take my first negative feedback on this one as I'm not comfortable transferring funds straight to his account.

There is no problem whatsover in transferring funds direct to your seller, except of course you get no paypal or any other protection. Bank transfers are very popular in Germany as paypal is not so widely used there, however you are right to suspect it is going to cost you. The last time i asked I was quoted £12 to do this, but I understand that different banks charge differently and other users on here have been quoted half that.

    Hi
I have never made an international transfer myself but I have received lots of them (with no charges incurred).
I know that if I provide the overseas bidder with my SWIFT and IBAN codes they do not have to pay much (if anything) in charges, but I wouldn't be surprised if British banks try and rip us off.

Hi, the cheapest method would pobably be 'worldpay' You simply need to quote the IBAN/BIC code to your bank and the cost for doing this is typically around £10

Soo is right. There is nothing wrong with bank transfers except the fee. I transfer a lot of money overseas and it usually costs me £12 everytime i do it.

It usually arrives in three days.

It is a shame though that more German sellers don't accept paypal. There is something that I collect that I can only get from Germany and it just isn't worth paying the bank transfer fees to buy it on ebay.

Thanks for all the replys guys. It looks like I've just priced my shirt out of the market !

10euros for the shirt and 10 for delivery I could live with but not another £9 on top of that.

I hate to do it but it looks like I'm going to have to take a negative feedback on this one :-(

I'll e-mail and offer to pay by paypal but I won't hold my breath !

And they’re all sitting there thinking, “When are those Brits going to get with the program, and join the Eurozone? Then they can pay us as simply and cheaply as my fellow Germans, and without PayPal taking great chunks of it.” :)

my suggestion - send euros. there should be no problem the seller accepting money.

concel securely inside an envelope & put that envelope inside the one you mail. i accept alot of payments this way. if you want added security, use a signed for service provided by royal mail. last time this cost around £3.50, quite a bit less than the £9 odd

Do not send cash unless the seller specifically requests it as you lose any ebay protection for using an insecure method of payment. The seller is entitled to stick to bank transfer if that's all he stated in his original auction.

if the buyers feedback is solid & he accepts cash then no problem. it is only a small amount. i had €100 turn up in cash the other day, sent regular post from germany. i also had US$80 sent as a signed-for service from the us

check the feedback first but go for it!
