  • Cobbler-Did you use tinned fruit or soft fruit? I made two and the one with the softer fruit was more soggy but was still cooked just the fruit made it wetter.

MATH, love the sound of the sticky honey sausages, any chance of the recipe?

    It's very difficult and complicated;)

For a buffet I use chipolatas. Heat a few tbsps of honey in the micro and stir in a tbsp of wholegrain mustard.

Line a baking tray with *oiled foil and put the sausages in and coat with the sticky mixture and oven cook until brown and sticky. HTH

*If you don't use foil you will ruin your baking tray. Guess how I found that out. LOL

This all sounds fab and I'm going to copy it but what am I doing wrong with Black Saturns fruit Cobbler? Mine stayed all runny and did not go nice and spongey as I expected - I know it will my fault and I'm certainly not critiscing BS's recipes!

I've no idea, I've never made it before so I hope it works out.

PMSL at this. I knew a vegetarian once who only ate bacon, chicken and sausages. LOL

Lots of people are semi vegetarian and eat fish hence the brackets! bacon, chicken and sausages is another matter.

I have a vegetarian relative who eats fish, chicken and sausages I suppose you could say they don't like red meat. I also work with someone who has been veggie for years and suddenly needed a burger!

  • Many thanks for all of your ideas so far - keep them coming.

The main thing that get's my goat is that if anyone dares comment on her cooking or adds extra seasoning etc she goes mad - yet she's perfectly happy to comment on other peoples cooking.

An example was on the weekend when I said about her coming over and she said what items she was bringing and how she wanted them cooked

I did say - Um I don't think so - you will have what your given and you will pretend to like it :D But in all honesty there is a part of me that still wants to impress her with something - What is it about the control you mothers have :D

Anyway - as I said - thanks for all the ideas so far - a nice stew or something similar might be good (well basically anything I can prepair in advance) if anyone wants to share ideas that would be great - also what would I serve with it?
You laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same
  • I think people like this are totally ignorant and their behaviour unacceptable! We wouldn't let our children get away with it, so why adults:confused: People like this are not welcome in my home whether they are family or not!!

I have been to many occasions where the food has been awful (not saying yours is) but I would never say anything and just eat a little-then have something when I get home IYKWIM. Its just common courtesy!

I dont get on with MIL anyway. Ive never been good enough for her son and apparently we were never going to last....met at 13, married at 19, DD at 20 and still married nearly 13 years....and she still moans!!! She lives a few doors away from us and we rarely see her. OH and her have never got on, but hey...thats a whole other thread!! Thinking about it though, she doesnt have many friends at all which is quite sad.

Try not to worry about it too much. Although you may impress her, she will NEVER tell you that, so Id quit whilst your ahead. Concentrate on your OH and kids(if you have any)...they need you and can be easily pleased.

Dont beat yourself up about it though...its NOT your fault! I felt this way for many years, until I realised it was not me with the problem but her and that whatever I did was never going to be good enough. I really dont understand this though sometimes as her house has always been messy and dirty but has the cheek to pick at my home when its always clean and tidy...go figure????

    Hugs

I've often wandered about vegetarians who eat fish. Fish are living creatures, is it because they are generally ugly and not cute and cuddly that people have no qualms about killing and eating them? I'm not a veggie btw :p

Without wanting to take this thread completely off topic, not everybody has the same reasons for being vegetarian/semi-vegetarian. I know several people who eat fish and in some cases also poultry, but will not eat other meats - simply on a point of palate, or what agrees with them.

I have one friend who would prefer to be entirely vegetarian but as she has a number of enforced medical restrictions on her diet (no dairy, limited alcohol, limited wheat) she finds food deathly dull unless she's able to eat fish.
