I cant remember - but I am sure I have skipped sp1 in past - you might want to check the microsoft web site for that information.

But the internet connection does really sound as a problem with the configuration of the laptop needed by the router at your friends place (security encrption).

it does not seem too have a problem with freeezing until service pack 2 isinstalled surely if it had a problem with the 2 gig memory it would freeze all the time

Have you followed up sp2 with additional updates through windows update.
Also sp3 is your next step - at the end of the day you will need to get sp3 so might as well plonk that on.

Hi just to let you all know i got it working perservered with all microsoft updates which were so slow after getting service pack 2 and it is working a treatfor the other problem of the wireless i am going too my friends this afternoon so i will check the configuration when i am there and i shall let you know as for adding the ram there is a slot under the motherboard which may i add was the biggest pain in neck too get too it had 512 in so i took that out and added the 2gig glo
