Is that with the refer a friend offer?

  • Hi,

From what I recall, they will match your existing overdraft if:

    a) You use their "switching service" to transfer your DD's, Standing Orders, salary payment etc to your new A&L account.

    b) You provide proof of your existing overdraft limit, a full months bank statments (ie 1st-31st) & can prove via those statements that you were in credit for at least 2 days in that month.

Found this on the A&L website
As well as switching payments to your new account when you use the Alliance & Leicester Premier Switching Service we will (subject to additional checks and verification):

    • Match the overdraft you had with your old bank
    • Not charge you any fees if you go overdrawn without authorisation
    • Give you a minimum overdraft of £250
For us to consider matching the overdraft you had with your old bank, simply provide us with one of the following:

    • Bank statement
    • For Internet based accounts – a print out of your online statement with your banks website address showing at the bottom
If these items do not show your overdraft limit, please provide a letter from your bank stating your overdraft limit along with your statement. These items must be less than 3 months old.

Please write your 9 digit Alliance & Leicester account number on the item(s) you are sending and return them along with your completed Switching Service Authority form.

We will write to you to let you know if your request has been successful.

The Quidco cashback works on top of the refer a friend thing, so it is possible to get £145 for opening the account :D

God, I wish I could thank more than once. I just want to keep pressing the button!!!!

THANK YOU!!! This thread has made my day. Just need to get it to work now. I wish my mum was at home now so I could ring her and ask her if she can refer me. I am just too impatient.

You can't do the referal until after the account has been set up, and you've been sent the account number, so if I were you, I'd open it now anyway. That way, even if your mum won't refer you (and I am sure she will!) you'll be all set to find someone else on here that'll do it for you!

Do you have to switch DD's etc to get the cash back?

No, to get the £50 (£95 if you go through someone on here!) for the refer a friend - you just need to meet the criteria of the account within 8 weeks of opening the account (with the premier direct account, that means paying in at least £500), and with the quidco cashback, you just need to be accepted for the account.

The only time the switching thing comes into it, is if you want an existing overdraft limit matched, AFAIK.

    I haven't switched DD's etc, and I've got my cashback :D

I tried to open one with A&L, they stuffed it up so I stayed wiht lloyds in the end, but they wouldn;t match my current £1,000 OD facility even though I don;t even use it - they said it was too high.
