American fridge freezer-reliable brands?

Hi, would really appreciate feedback from people regarding reliable brands /models for side by side american refrigerators with water/ice dispensers?

Have read lot of negative feedback about some samsung models and also maytag.

Was originally interested in maytag because of its depth/size but not sure now. Any advise would be great.

We have had a Maytag for over seven years (it is known by the offspring as The Tardis, lol!) The only thing that has ever gone wrong is that the bulb which lights up the water/ice dispenser has blown and the replacement is a horrendous price (about eight pounds!:eek:). The water filter is a bit pricy, too - but other than that, it's great!:D

Oh! Don't get the stainless steel version if you've got kids, it'll never be pristine again....................

Hi, There is American side by side fridge freezers and then there are American 'Style' side by side fridge freezers.

Generally best go for a proper Detroit built make like Maytag, Admiral, Amana, GE. The best is Subzero without question but you would probably need a martgage to get one! Then Amana probably best of the rest.

hi i just wondered where ckdesigner would recommend you go to buy the detroit made fridge freezers i am in the market for one soon and was hoping you could recommend a good site or shop to buy one from.

Does anyone happen to know what models are less than 650mm deep?...slimmer the better.

I did see an Admiral listed as being 600mm but you often cant tell if that includes handles or any obstructions at the rear.

Oh and whats the chance of fitting some sort of door stop to the bottom of these.

We have had an LG since 2005, never had a day's trouble with it. Don't know how I ever lived with an under the counter fridge and freezer before.
