It'll be interesting to see what happens to their odds - I wonder if a complete thrashing is already factored in to the prices?
I still think the best political bet out there is a General Election in the second half of the year. My bet is in the money now.
I reckon Labour's best hope is that people are embarrassed to admit that they are going to vote Labour so don't tell pollsters (like the Tories in 1992).
I am sure you could find some cover bets like shorting the UK stock market or housing market. I just think that due to the fact no one really has a clue what the economic landscape will be like in 12 months the odds are ridiculous.
This comment earlier in the thread, it is obviously from a Tory voter or AD's wife
but it does show how sentiment can still change on news, this was just the Eurozone data today.
Now we are in this mess, the response has been somewhat more decisive than other countries (although it's a shame they waited fourteen months between August 07 and October 08 when Lehman's crashed, to do anything), although this owes more to Alastair Darling who was the driving force behind the bailout.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. When is the absolute limit for having the General Election next year?
3rd June. The current Parliament started 11th May 2005 so expires on 10th May 2010 unless the 2 Houses amend the Parliament Act to extend or shorten the maximum period of time a Government can sit or exceptional circumstances (think big war/flu pandemic) cause elections to be postponed.0 -

Good job we agreed'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Hopefully the tories will get back in, things won't be perfect for sure but they are likely to crush the public sector until the pips squeak to repay our debt, that in itself will be enough for me.
Take it you don't work in the Public sector :rotfl:'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. You watch this deliberately created "Swine Flu" will suddenly get really bad this time next year causing the election to be postponed indefinitely.
You heard it here first...
