think pizza hut gave son food poisoning......

we got a pizza last night with wedges and garlic bread - only my son and his dad had the wedges (dad only had about 5 whereas son had the rest) - dad was sick almost half hour after the meal - then about 1am this morning son began being sick and is now ill in bed having to take time off work - he says his tummy really hurts - am keeping an eye on him before deciding if he needs the doctors..........anyway, they were the only two to have the wedges and they are ill - whereas me and daughter didnt have them and we are fine - so, this seems like food poisoning to me????

but, as all the wedges are gone - what am i meant to do now? i cant prove anything - son might get worse i really dont know (hope he doesnt obviously) - and - son now losing a days pay........

any suggestions please?

I would definately make a complaint to Pizza Hut.
There are probably more sick people out there, be good
if you could get together and complain give you a bit
    more clout
You might even get some free vouchers....Hmmm maybe not!

Hope sickness is not too serious.

I realised I wouldn't have a clue who to report it to, so I googled (actually I everyclicked, as that gives money to charity ;) ) and found this useful site - seems to suggest you should go to yr GP and nag him/her to report it!

Good luck, hope it doesn't get any worse.......... :o

My son and his friend were recently very ill after eating in a high street restaurant. My son needed to be seen at a hospital as his body temperature started to dip worringly low.

However when we asked about making a report the hospital said no, it wasn't worth the time or the effort as unless there was a mjor breakout, ie one affecting more than just one family or group, then nothing would ever be done.

I did speak to the restaurant manager and he took the details but I never heard anything back.

Give your local council Environmental Health officer a ring, they will have any recorded outbreaks.
They will advise you on what to do next.

    Hope all better soon.

thanks everyone - just been into sons room (eurgh - got a major clean up later) - his face has got colour back into it so he is improving - he woke and asked me to get him some water - so, this is a good sign - not too serious - just annoying he has had to lose a days pay!!

am waiting for pizza hut to open and will give them a piece of my mind - very annoyed but doubt whether it will get me anywhere.....

tried to get to see dr for son - earliest appointment thursday - no available emergencie appointments today but can take him up to get him triaged and they will say when the earliest is he can be seen as an emergencie but might be sat for hours or not seen at all - so, am leaving him in bed where he is better off..........nice nhs we have eh? getting worse!!!

    thanks everyone........

oh - hubby ok now too thanks (whoops - hes not really an afterthought but he wasnt that bad even though being a man he will say different lol)

    edited to say;-

jobbingmusician - that site was indeed interesting - it may notve been the wedges after all - but, that is the only meal they have both eaten in the past 6/7 days - i am like a cafe in my house because i cater for different diets;- son got one health problem, hubby another - daughter on a veggie kick and im on a diet kick - so, we dont all eat the same or at the same time............

plus - cant be my cooking either as i went to catering college and did a health/hygiene course so know probable more than the average housewife/mum how to cook carefully and safely..........

    still interesting though - thanks

You will be wasting your time ringing Pizza hut, it's the your council enviroment health you need to speak to.

Pizza Hut will say there is nothing wrong even if there is and possibly remove/clean up before the council goes in, they may offer you some free meals you have to decide are you prepared to go back again?

If you contact the enviroment healt you may be saving someone else being sick

ive already contacted the environmental health - not contacted pizza hut yet as they told me to give them time to investigate and they will forward my name to them before i ring them - i certainly dont want anyone else suffering for the sake of a free pizza but will make sure i get my money back though.............thanks all

Hope you get on okay but am not sure that Pizza Hut will be able to say or do anything! Its depends on whether anyone else has reported being ill afterwards. Environmental Health will be the ones that need to know as then if the same restaurant gets more complaints either from the same date or other dates then there needs to be something done

Let us know how you get on!
