At What Point Are You At Work?

I was refering to being early, not late. Who mentioned 5 mins or making brews or being at your desk late? I wouldn't pay a manager who made assumptions like this in washers either

Ooooh a wagging finger, please read back form the start and you will see where this was said.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
But is this really any different to anybody who has to travel to work by public transport? ie, train pulls into station at 7.35 & you have to walk from station to place of work which takes approx. 25mins?

In such circumstaces a person can't claim that their arrival at work was at 7.35 because that was the time they actually stepped off the train that they had taken to get them to work.
No I disagree! I had to be at my place of work at least by 7.35 A.M to start work at 8.00 A.M. Arrival at train station is not a place of work where arrival at my company carpark is .0 -

OK, I have checked both our responses in posts 31 & 32 and would appear you included making brews paying in washers and the like based on your own assumptions.
Love to come to your works party:beer:0 -

Did you put on your time sheet (or whatever method of recording hours you had) that you were working from 0735?0 -
all the bickering on this thread over petty issues...
my OH was made redundant at the end of January and is still out of work, she would love to have to deal with the complicated issue of "should i arrive 5, 15, or 30mins" before my start time.
pull yourselves together people.0 -

Well said. All those who resent having to 'log on' in 'their own time' should think on that.0 -

So if I turn up, bump into somebody, make a coffee - that's not at work. I tend to aim for: walk into the office 5+ minutes early, turn on the PC, while that's booting up, make a coffee, log on ... then it's start time and I am "at work".
This is what I am referring to as being the sensible way to proceed, later another poster referred to this as being sad, I said no, it's mature and responsible, you responded by saying that we were here to save money... and posted a link, are you with me now?Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0 -
And, I have always been early for work so I can get sorted and be at my desk ON TIME so as not to keep customers and colleagues waiting.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

Ditto, I honestly thought it was normal?
In my previous job we were expected to be there 10-15 minutes before our 'official' start time so we were ready to deal with things when that time arrived. I think it would be extremely unprofessional if a customer phoned in at 9am and you had to apologise for not having an answer (or having to phone them back) because you were waiting for the computer to start.
I suppose it may be different in other jobs, but really can't see how being there early enough to start on time is a major issue.
I started a new job on Monday so make sure I am there at least 10 minutes before my start time (although no one has requested this) so I have time to get myself ready.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100
