Another DLA renewal query

Options
Got my GP report this morning, it isnt as good as I had hoped but its truthful and factual I suppose. What worries me is she has put on there I work part time, which I didnt want to draw attention to as I was afraid it made me seem more normal, but in reality, its around the corner locally and is as far as I can possibly go. But the DLA is essential as it means I can get WTC as well, as I cant manage financially without it.

So this is my question, as the work issue is now on the table so to speak, should I put on my form that this is a renewal and I really n eed to have it renewed so I can keep my job and then get WTC again or should I just not even mention it.
Are we supposed to draw attention to the fact we had it previously ??

Sorry to keep asking questions

When you fill in the renewal you should explain how your illness/disability affects you on a day to day basis and you would need to also explain how you are able to do your p/t job so they don't get the impression that the job means you don't have care/mobility needs(say doing window cleaning but say you have restricted mobility) That way they won't think you have been claiming frauduntly.

Sometimes having a job can mean that you may have increased care needs. You may actually need more attention or supervision when you are at work than you get at home, then it may be that you will be entitled to a higher rate of DLA. Colleagues may make you drinks as you cant get into the kitchen area. Do you rely on someone to go out and get you lunch, or heat it up for you.

Have you had any changes made to your desk or seat? Do you sit nearer the lift or toilet? These are all just general questions but may help you to think of areas that are different for you in the work place.

You do not have to justify to the DLA why you work, but you need to tell them what alterations have been made at work to enable you to have a job.

    I hope this helps

There have been no alterations to anything in work, it's just the local shop around the corner where I live. I have agoraphobia and panic attacks and cant be far from home.

So do I need to put in the renewal that I really need to keep the DLA so I can keep my WTC ? or not mention that ?

I just dont want work mentioned at all really. I have had agoraphobia for 22 years and cant get off my housing estate without someone with me. Cant go any distance even with someone. furthest been in 20 years is 10 miles up the road. I have struggled to keep this job in spite of my difficulties and because of it I cant get a better job or anything with any decent pay. The only way I have coped is by having DLA for 2 years now and WTC to top it up. I'm a single parent, husband walked out because he'd had enough of my disability, also dont know whether to mention that !!! But while the only reason I get WTC is because I get DLA, I dont want DLA to know that I am working for the renewal because I'm scared they will think I'm better than I am, and I'm not :(

Whether or not you need to have your DLA renewed for financial reasons is of no consequence to the DM. All they are interested in is how your disability affects your ability to function and what help you need with care and mobility as a result.

Also whether or not you work is of no consequence either. Many disabled people are capable of work!

Just fill out the form as you usually would and include any extra help you need to enable you to do your job, as suggested by the poster above.

Chameleon is absolutely right. It's no good bogging down the renewal form with useless information. You need to keep it factual & relating only to any care or mobility needs you have.

If you need to have somebody walk you to & from work, then list this as it shows a need for support to enable you to work for a few hours each week. As others have mentioned, having a job often means you have more needs to be met than if you didn't work.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Thank you so much that did make me feel better. I just have been in a flat spin of panic all day today but you're absolutely right, of course thousands of disabled people work but I'm sure many of them still get DLA to help them. I just started panicking that if they thought I was capable of working they would think I didnt need the DLA but I do because it does really help.

Thanks Cattie, both yours and Chameleon's replies have really helped calm me down tonight. I do have to have help sometimes to get to work ! so I suppose I should put it down, it's all truth and factual.
*sigh* so scary doing all this again.

why do you only get working tax credit because you get dla? i thought you were entitled to wtc if you worked 16hrs or more on a low wage.i didnt realise you had to be on dla to get it??
