Well, I was thinking it might be an idea just to do one on furniture first (so carcase, fascia, internals etc.) and see how successful that one was, as that is the most commonly asked question. It could then go on to appliances, sinks, taps etc. at a later date if all went well?
Would you be up for helping? I know that would mean we would actually have to agree for a change
Yep, good idea - cabinetry first. That's a big enough job in its self.
I'm sure we can agree, over some things at least!0 -
I have posted on another thread about this and reiterate that we gad a Wickes kitchen last year and we are delighted with the hardware, the planner and the recommended fitter.

Hi Mr Sheen,
Mereway mainly supply independent kitchen specialists and yes they will always want to come round and measure up properly, this can only be a good thing. If a so called kitchen company just sells a customer a series of boxes from their list of units or will sell a set of boxes based on a customers measurements how can that be called 'kitchen design'? Any decent kitchen specialist will want to do the job properly from visiting the customer's house and taking their own measurements, its the proffesional thing to do.
As for Crown, as flat packs go they are OK. The problem is Crown have no idea who their dealer network is, this is because all the product goes through 2 distributors (who obviously have to take their cut) and they will supply anyone with a cheque book.
You can generally tell the quality of the kitchen manufacturer by the quality of the companies they supply.0 -

Hi,
Standard base units are 560 mm carcase depth, then generally add 20 mm for doors. Normally you have 600 mm deep worktop which gives you 40 mm over carcase depth. If you mean you want 570 mm depth worktop then most base units have a 40 mm service void at the back so you would just need to cut this down. Or some makes will do a standard 460 mm carcase depth.
Hope this helps.0 -
wickes is part of the travis perkins group. To reduce its "ballooning bank debts", Travis has called on its shareholders for an emergency bail-out via a £300m rights issue.. If that funding isn't forthcoming, there could be a crisis ahead.
if you are going to buy high value items from Travis Perkins, such as a kitchen or a bathroom suite, then for your added protection, it is better to pay for it using a credit card, and not cash.
however, bear in mind that if TP does goes under, there may be difficulty sourcing replacement parts for goods sold under the company's own brand label.
Of course, the same advice goes for any high value purchase from any company. Will it be around for the duration to meet any later need for spares or repairs to your original purchase?0 -
we've had an ikea kitchen for about 10 years - still all in one pieced despite lots of abuse from us and hte kids. we bought our appliances, sink and taps from other places though.
will need a new kitchen soon and love the magnet curvy one but can't afford it so it will prob be another ikea one'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -

Very interesting - it would seem that TP have a 'debt pile' of £1bn.0 -
If you are happy doing your own designing, then I'd recommend diy-kitchens, an online supplier. They have a wide range, good prices and in my experience the units are good quality - fully assembled on delivery not flat pack. The service is also very good. They look at your order properly and if there is anything they think is slightly odd will ring you up. I was doing a refurb rather than an new kitchen so ordered what appeared to be a slightly strange selection of units and doors. A very nice man rang me up to check out that I hadn't made any mistakes (I hadn't but it was nice to be asked). They were also absolutely delightful when I changed my mind about a couple of items after the order had gone in.0
