I too have been in debt since 18!! Hoping to be totally debt free in 4 years - and never again... That means I would have been in debt for 18 years!! How much interest have I paid in 18 Years?!!
    "I will be debtfree":p
  • :T D&DD - at least you're dealing with it now - think of how many people aren't.

I too have been in debt since I turned 18 - left home for uni a month later and the student overdraft started. I will finally be clear this month having been in debt for 11 years, and when that dawned on me last week I burst into tears. It's such an amazing thing to not owe anybody, and in this day and age (and I'm only just old enough to use that phrase) that's quite a feat for anyone. So we should all be proud that we're trying.

It feels like i have been in debt all my life but it has only been the last 7 years and i turn 30 this year. I understand how you feel though, i have a son with a range of medical problems and special needs, and he also lives with a ASD. It was the traumatic pregnancy with him that began my money spending and then after his brith OH had to take alot of work to look after our other child as i had to live in the hospital with my son. The stress and pressure kicked off a spending habit, it was the only thing i could do that made me feel slightly better at the time. That habit, along with me being unable to work and life in general has meant that we now have a huge debt.

So i understand and have finally begun to kick the habit so to speak and no longer wish to live that way, thanks in many ways to here. So well done, keep positive and remember you are not alone :D

    Hi
I too have been in debt since I was 18 and married my first hubby!! We went on to have 2 kids very quickly so by the time I was 21 we had 2 kids, a mortgage and yeah a brand new car(hubby liked his cars!!!).
I got divorced at 28 and spent years on IS- then when i met second hubby I brought all my debts with me. He too had credit problems from his first marriage!!!
So when I get out of debt next Xmas at the age of 42 it will be the first time in my adult life!!!
I do have a house to show for it(only just as first hubby tried his best to get me to sell it!!)
I have lived here since I was 21 and still have years left to pay on it though through extending the mortgage term many times and then second hubby and i taking out a 25 year term together!!!!
But hopefully when all my debts are cleared next Xmas we can start reducing the mortgage term.

It seems to be the "Norm" here... Most of us look as if we have been in debt since our "youth".. at the age of 55 I seem to have been in debt since I was just a twinkle..but thats life I guess,,, keep your chin up.. it's got to get better
 Keep your Chin up.. it can only get better
 I'm one of those people who was born to have money,

We're in the same boat too! not all self induced - some of it down to illness but a lot of it was down to us spending what we hadn't got!

But we've learned from it ! as have you and thats the main thing!

Will be 44 when I'm debt free !:j

    Debt-free and Proud!
I managed not to be in any debt at all until I got a job with one firm in 1999 - they never paid exes on time so I ended up using my OD and ccs to put them on for when i eventually got them back.

then it felt normal to be in debt after a while, and since then I've always had some sort of debt, although not loads.

Now i want to get back to where i used to be before I discovered Ods and ccs.
