After doing some asking around a lot of people in the automotive industry have also recommended Toyota's and have said that they are second to none for reliability and I should not be afraid of buying one with high mileage, but just make sure it has a full service history.
Chris,
Do some more research re the back problem. I can only speak from experience and the only ones that I know of that are good with backs - are Toyota's. But then I could be accused of being prejudiced as I work for a garage that specialises in them. But then I drive a Ford...
As I said before, I have had back trouble, which I why I choose to drive automatics now. And seriously, my boss's wife has a very bad problem and finds the Avensis suits her.
I recommend you request some test drives. See if you can have the car/s for a few days or at least a day, to see if they give you the support that you need.
Good Luck!!Genie

That is a ridiculous price! Was that a main dealer price fitted?? Has to be :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Most Previas seem to be grey imports (easiest way to tell is if they have a 2 line numberplate with a smaller font then they are definitely an import) so if you take them to a main dealer you're pretty much guaranteed to get shafted.
If you're going to get an import make sure you have somewhere independent lined up who is prepared to work on it. Most of the popular imported Japanese MPVs (Toyota Previa, Mitsubishi Delica, Mazda Bongo) are so common these days that this shouldn't be too hard.0
