First of all, happy birthday to you.
Second of all, I think all this obsessing over age that our culture encourages is a bit daft. It's just numbers. I'm 31 now and I love being in my 30s. It's much better than the previous decade! Why on earth anyone would want to be in their 20s again defeats me!
Maybe it's a guy thing but in my 20s (particularly my early 20s) I was neurotic, underpaid, unsure of pretty much everything, junior at work and had no idea about relationships. As the decade moved on I got it all into perspective and now life's pretty good, and getting better all the time (by and large).
Now I know that this has absolutely nothing to do with the number (20s vs 30s and all that) but I think a bit of experience and wisdom in life is a good thing. And it's free to accumulate (hence = moneysaving :money:)
I have a friend, who is 35, who has celebrated his 28th birthday eight times now. He claims only five people on earth know his real age - me, his mother, the DVLA, the Inland Revenue and the Foreign Office! And whilst it was funny the first couple of times, it's now starting to look a bit sad. He keeps saying things like "I want to buy a flat before I'm 30" or "I want to get promoted again before I'm 30". It's so delusional! He's 35! Why not just be 35? What's wrong with 35? I don't think that living in the past like that; putting life on hold until that indefinable 'something' happens is healthy or helpful really.
I think the key to feeling fulfilled and relevant in this modern world is to keep pushing forward. Grab some dreams.
Happy birthday again."I'm not a one-trick pony. I'm not a ten-trick pony. I'm a whole field of ponies - and they're all literally running towards this job."

I just wanted to add that while i can see completely where you are coming from i stopped thinking like this about 10 years ago.
It was the night before my 23rd birthday. I had been whinging about the fact that i was going to be 23 when i still felt like i was only 17. (I still do to this day!) The phone rang and it was my mother to say that my nineteen year old cousin had been killed in a car accident. It shook me to the core, and i realised that i was sooo lucky to have reached the grand old age of 23!
I'll be 33 next month and while i'm not glad i am older, i can thank my blessings and appreciate that i am still alive. I may not be as slim, rich, or whatever as i'd like but i am alive. And i intend to live, not wish my life away until i am thinner, richer or more whatever. Yes aim for these things if you think they will make you happier but dont forget to be happy along the way too.
Oh and happy birthday!0 -
Happy birthday Jill. For me life begun at 30 - 40 - 50- etc.
I have done more since turning 50 than in the rest of my life. So you still have plenty of time.
When my eldest son reached 36 he said "I feel really old" To me he is still a boy though.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Happy Birthday, GoldenJill!!
What beautiful earrings, you must be a lovely person to have such a wonderful and thoughtful boyfriend.
It's a cliche but "age ain't nothing but a number". I've become more confident, fitter and happier by the year (and I've got a few more years on you!).

Ok, now you've suceeded in making me cry! But it's tears of happiness... it's it amazing how complete strangers can make you feel so good about yourself.
I agree with all of you - 35 is still young and I do feel more confident and wiser. I need to count the blessings rather than tally up the 'what I haven't achieved..."
C'mon tho.. who wouldn't kill for a pair of tanned 19 year old just back from a week in Europe legs! ha ha :rotfl:0 -

ROFL. Now I'm 30 I plan to be 30 for a few years. Its not that I will mean meaning to lie, I'll just get distracted halfway through answering..
e.g.
''How old are you lostinrates?''
''I'm thirty...oooh, gosh, what beautiful earings, I love earings, where DID you get those earings?''. I reckon that has some milage in it, especially as I'm often distracted mid sentence;)0 -
I am having the exact same feelings. I think that you have to forgot your age and look at what you have got. I am 30 this year and lost my job two years ago due to depression and am now starting rebuild my life. I have realised that it is not about qualifications but more about having fun and making a mark! Be happy and enjoy your life. Imagine if you were in your 60's and thinking where did it all go. You can make the changes and do what you want to do. Throw away the ideas about school because lets face it school doesn't make us who were are it's lives experiences that do. I look at the record I wrote when I was 15 saying that in 5 yesars I do this and 10 years I'd do that but oops didn't do it because it wasn't me. Have Fun and look forward not back!!!0
