I suspect Maz he's double booked on purpose because he doesnt want to go and it gives him an 'easy way out' - at least in his eyes anyway.
i really don't think so.... if he really didn't want to go, he just would have said he didn't want to go.
and once double booked he just wants to go out with his mates more... nothing underhand about it. It's not his style......I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Sally why dont you make a list of all the skills and experience you have and then see what careers fit with that and what training you'd need to do etc... no need to narrow your options at this stage till you get a more fixed idea
See my trouble is that I get all these dreams about doing these jobs PMSL. Ive wanted to do primary education for a couple of years but I know that means a lot of study and expense to get trained and into a job. But plus side is that its a secure and reasonably paid job.
Then I have these dreams about running my own business, I guess when I see boss making all these mistakes and my suggestions working better I think I could do a better job. I would love to do something creative like become an upholsterer, designing fabrics, pottery...you see my problem, I guess I like the idea of having a little workshop in the country with a beautiful garden and having an idilic lifestyle :rotfl: Someone give me a slap!
Then my latest is that I have loved being at the allotment and pottering in the garden and thought having a house with some land I could run a little plant nursery...see here I go againI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

Have you done my debit card yet bookie?
Done the card thanks Maz. Bookie's first mail order! :j (this is not spam!).
I was thinking wine rather than food but maybe I can find both cheap.0 -
I thought primary you get a busary?? Or is that just secondary now for pgce??
Okay well the quickest way too try out some of these jobs is call someone from the yellow pages and ask if they would let you come and help half a day a week - try it out for a month see if you love it - if not move on to next idea...then while you're there ask them about how they manage the finances etc and how viable your ideas are...
Thats what I'd do0 -
ok -upholstery - start off with an upholstery class with adult learning, we have them, I reckon so will Dorset Adult Learning -see if you like it.
Pottery - the same
I wanted to do a PGCE for years and could never afford to take the time out. I'd also choose primary.
You could do the 10 week PTLLS course at an adult learning centre (which I did) and then teach adults in something - you could become a tutor for Dorset Adult Learning - or PooleNot steady because the classes are scattered, but it's only a 10 week course and then you can get into a classroom and see how you feel about teaching generally before committing to a PGCE and deciding it isn't what you wanted.
You can also be a Voluntary Tutor and then get some free training if you want to teach literacy and numeracy up to Level 2, again, it's a way in to see the classroom environment."Stay Wonky":D

Thanks BB and Becky. I couldn't find any local Upholstery courses when I looked the other day. Will specifically look for adult learning and see again. I did think about teaching adults but Im just not sure. Am going to speak to DD's prospective School and see if I might go in and do some helping out. I just really need to get focused and sort it out as I know this is one huge area of my life that I'm not happy withI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

best thing to do for course is wait until early July Sally - we're in the last term so there isn't much to enrol on until the new brochures come out at the end of June-ish. There will definitely be pottery classes at Poole or Bournemouth and we have upholstery classes - its' something I've always fancied. You take along something really knackered and restore it.
How about Classroom Assistant? It's become a really recognised role with a formal qualification rather than the old image of it as someone helping out in the classroom."Stay Wonky":D
