Lpg

Does LPG actually work? Can anyone give examples of running costs/savings. I'm not just talking v8's, 1.4 petrol corsa van etc.
Has anyone had their diesel LPG'd?

LPG does have some use with petrol (edit: I meant Diesel here) I believe but only in small amounts, not as a fuel system replacement.

I imagine it's only worth it if you do intergalactic mileages and have a particularly fuel hungry car as after installation cost, and the added maintenance and insurance costs it probably wouldn't be worth it for the average person.

Diesel LPG is a performance booster not economy so much.

However you can replace petrol completely with LPG and it is a better fuel for the car and everyone close to it but it is not as powerful a fuel.

It terms of raw energy it has 80% of what petrol has so every mpg must compared in this way because it does show

The government is determined to raise taxes on it faster then petrol and eventually they will stop it being any economic benefit but it is right now depending on how much it costs you to acquire as an option.

Best place to get it is as a new car, it can cost zero extra at this stage. Its not always available but Ive seen it on Proton, nissan, Vauxhall and Volvo.

Most new car buyers dont care about saving money much so its not popular afaik, you would probably have to go out of your way to request or select a model with it

Fitting it on a second hand car can cost thousands or hundreds if you do it yourself

Cars on LPG will have golden oil a year after an oil change because it burns so clean, this means the oil does not wear out immediately as it will on a petrol or diesel car especially it turns to black you can see right after a service .

This often means the engine will last twice the milage I have heard but most new car buyers dont keep the car for life so this isnt often seen as a benefit

Remember however LPG is banned on many things- I'm sure Eurotunnel for one.

It hasn't really taken off, but if you have a thirsty petrol car and boot space to give up as tanks usually take a bit of that space up, then it will save you a bit of money over petrol.

Our local Shell station has it for about 50p, but the pump went out of service for a while- and with only one per station is this common? Guess you could fill up with petrol short term!

LPG is banned on many things? Just a slight exageration methinks.
Well, you've named one. Can you please try to think of another?

Yeah, bad choice of words. I'm sure some underground car parks didn't or don't accept LPG cars too, FWIW, but I think a lot of it was a bit of a myth, banned for safety without actually checking the reasons. Eurotunnel is down to licenses.

I have LPG and well worth it.

It is actually half price at £850 to convert at the moment think the place is Southend On Sea.

We save a fortune and do our own via a pump in our garage when you cost it at 43p per litre then do the maths.

I did Cornwall from Suffolk for £16 in a 1.6 Scenic

Also get cheaper insurance and tax and free from congestion charges if going to London city centre. I love it and would never go back.

Incidently going through the tunnel all you have to do is pull switch over from LPG to Petrol to satisfy their regulations.

dont know (after reading that) if its because our conversion is literally like a petrol, there is no "tank" as such as all joined up with petrol

hmmmm strange dont know how we did it then?
