Foster caring

just to conflict with the above post! whilst yes you do sometime have to work with the child's birth family to a certain degree, you are self employed and as such have the final say as to who enters your house. I for one will not let any birth family through my front door as i feel that the child has a right to have a home where they feel safe and know they will not come to any harm - as I do not know fully what harm they have come to previously with their birth family then any contact is away from my house - I will provide transport and willingly interact with parents if required.
I have not had any problems from social workers with this stance.
the difference between support from LA and agency care is generally budget led! LA social service departments are understaffed and whilst the social workers are no less supportive, their case loads are generally to big to give everyone the time they would like to. Agency social workers have far fewer cases.0 -
No you don't have to let anyone into your home.0

We've done respite care in the past and so I am aware of the approval process, but I would be very interested to hear from people who do foster for agencies rather than SS. There are several agencies that look very good, do they all only have children no-one else will take?
