Pay monthly sim advice
Options
hi
I have 2 teenagers both on PAYG deals & I was thinking of setting them both up with pay monthly deals as you can get better text & mins deals
I would just like some advice on any drawbacks to this as can they go over the allowance that is signed up for or once they use the allowance they will have none till the following month?
thanks in advance

Most sim only deals work like normal contracts, in that when your allowance runs out you can continue to use the service but just get charged additional costs on your bill.
However, I know T-Mobile (don't know about other networks?) do a sim only deal called Solo-Fixed, whereby after the allowance runs out you have to top it up with a payg voucher until your new allowance gets added. Still get good allowances ie. unlimited texts on these deals though.
Depends how much you trust them really.0 -
Very very bad idea to move them to contract. Just look at all the other threads regarding teenagers running up high bills which their parents have to pay for. So unless you want to the be in the same situation, I would strongly advise against it.
PAYG can be pretty good if you convert the top credits and buy the bolt-on/add-on/freedom packs. You get more for your money that way. You can find the details on the major mobile network websites.0 -
I've just got the sim only deal on vodafone for my daughter. £10 per month for 500 texts and 100 mins . £60 back on topcashback, tied in for a year. So works out at £5 per month. She mostly texts so a good deal for her.0

hi, thanks for replies
I like the idea of the tmobile solo fixed as it is capped but do you know if I could get 2 of these in my name.0 -
I don't see why not. I have two mobile contracts under my name with 3 network. I don't think there is a problem as long as you pass their credit check.
adandem - As long as you monitor their usage then you won't have a problem. But you know how teenagers are when they know someone else is paying the bills. They can sometimes get carried away or uses services that are not part of the plan. These are what normally incur higher charges and cannot be restricted/controlled under contract. Things like MMS, Internet, Downloads, etc... so be careful.
Just noticed that 3 are doing £10 100mins & £15 500mins sim only deals with unlimited text. Might be worth considering, at least it gives them a large enough buffer not to go over each month. Especially the texting side of things.0
