Barclaycard - complete joke

I have been with Barclaycard as a loyal customer for 20 yrs. I have always every month paid my balance off in full, I have never once not paid the full amount owed. So today I have asked them to increase my limit from £3000 to £5k. The reason being is because I have a couple of big bills coming re holidays etc. The customer services told me they can only increase my limit to £4,300. When I asked him why, he stated it was due to the credit crisis and limits are being set, he acknowledged from my account details that I have been the perfect customer. He went onto say that they are now rejecting 7 out of 10 applications for new accounts !!!!.
. To say I am sat here with smoke coming out of my ears is an understatement. I am bloody furious with their attitude. Right here's my question, What other credit card (Visa) has a good customer service record, not interested really in the interest rates as I always pay mine off, many thanks from Mr Angry

Many of the the CC companies are not intested in customers that pay off their balances at the end of each month, they do not earn anything from it. If you had paid a bit of interest over the last few years they would probably have been happy to increase your limit.

Barclaycard are weird with their limit increases.

I had a big row with them over this a few years back.

My limit was on £7000 and I requested an increase to allow for a Balance Transfer to £9000. They refused, and I pushed and pushed, spoke to supervisors etc but no go.

So, I accepted their decision and reduced the level of Balance Transfer that I wanted to do, and had to arrange to pay the remaining balance off elsewhere to avoid accruing interest.

Guess What ? Within a couple of months, they automatically increased the limit to £11500. Why could they have not done this when I needed a high limit ? Very annoying but its not personal, just down to relying on stupid computer systems

Why not go for a Virgin card as an alternative. They are generally very generous with their limits as are most MBNA run cards.

Yeah it's almost as if the fact of your asking makes them suspicious - hence bigger unsolicited rises than when you asked.

My guess is they have some stupid formula in place limited the amount of increase they'll give on request and £5000 was just too far from £3000. Just a guess. Go with another card - loyalty counts for nothing.

There's definitely logic; it's just that you don't know what it is ;-)

    Barclaycard

I've never been better off in my life, thousands in savings in BARCLAYS bank accounts, no debts other than the mortgage (just over 1 x salary as well), not been overdrawn for a couple of years...

and what do Barclaycard do to my credit limts?

    Reduce them to:

    Visa £300 and 22.9% APR
    Mastercard £1000 and 19.9% APR

...and they wonder why I don't bother using them any more???

You have thousands in savings. You are a pillar of society. By what you say I assume you have no need of credit. So its best they give part of your credit limit to a deserving case. Its only business.

My point being that their actions are illogical. Their actions discourage me from using their credit facilities. So they reduce their potential to make money from me.

When I do use a credit card, it isn't theirs.

If a mate asked you to lend them 2 grand, you probably wouldn't - so why is it poor customer service when Barclaycard won't grant your request?

You are NOT the perfect customer at all! You pay off in full each month, so they make absolutely no money out of you. You are in fact the worst possible kind of customer for them, the guy on the phone was just being polite. Most people who pay off in full are getting their limits cut. You were lucky to get an increase at all.
