depends what you're taking onto the plane.
I just returned from New York and didn't have camera cleaning solution in a seperate bag. It's in a small red bottle and is probably around 25ml when new. I carried it inside my camera gear and not seperately.

I can't speak for US security, but the machines in the UK automatically recognise all liquids and if it goes off they'll search all of your luggage. There is a standard policy of 'if it's not declared it gets confiscated', as I have found out to my cost before now: I had all my liquids prepared in a regulation plastic bag but because I forgot to get it out in advance and declare it they took from me without question. You may get away with it but if it's important I wouldn't risk it.

    Hi,

We are flying out with Ryanair for a weekend in prague on Saturday and have kept price to a minimum by just taking hand (cabin) luggage.

The problem is with all the security checks all our liquids have to be in bottles of less then 100ml with a combined volume of 1000ml (ie 10 x 100ml)

Although Boots/Superdrug offer the bottles for about £1 each I woulddn't mind finding a place a bit cheaper (if possible)

Does anyone have a good place for 100ml bottles ?

Also, any tips for a weekend a way with just hand luggage, ie what to pack ?

    Thanks

    Oliver

Saw some empty bottles in Tesco the other night but did not take much notice of the price. Give them a go.
  • Home bargains had 4 or 5 small bottles in a plastic zip bag for 79p and one of the bottles you can fill is a pump spray which I decant spray sun tan oil into if we are going away on a short trip.

I can also recommend the Home Bargains ones, and last year I had some from Bodycare. They were around £1-£1.50 and there were some little pots in with them which I found really useful.

I wasn't "trying to get away with it". When security asked what was in my bag i told them "camera gear" and when asked about liquids i also told them about the small bottle of lens cleaning fluid.
At both Gatwick and JFK it was acknowledged and not removed. My bag was searched for bombs at one point in JFK but as before, i had declared my cleaning fluid. No problems at any time even after they searched my bag and took out the cleaning kit i had with me. I was asked by the security if i was a pro because of the amount of gear i had so they even had a bit of chat with me.

I guess it also depends on what kind of mood the security are in.

The important thing here is that you declared it, which makes it ok. It wasn't at all clear from your OP that you'd told anyone about it, and if you hadn't it would have given them grounds to confiscate it. Presumably if they'd asked you to put it in a bag with any other liquids you had you would have done. I wasn't suggesting that you were "trying to get away with it", but was merely pointing out that, from personal experience, undeclared items are liable to be thrown away even if they are in regulation packaging.

rather than buying empty plastic bottles, you could buy some of the small travel sizes of the things you actually want. boots, superdrug & tesco all sell mini bottles of some of the big brands of goo. keep the bottles to refill for next time. That way you don't have a selection of unlabelled bottles in the bathroom, & have to play toiletry roulette..
Failing that, I believe Prague now has shops. :D

For a weekend away, I wear jeans, boots & coat on plane (top optional :D). I also pack one outfit to go out in, so one small pair of heels & a skirt. Pair of trainers or flat shoes as Prague is hilly & cobbly. A couple of tops/shirts that go with both jeans & skirt. Underwear for the weekend. That's about it.

My OH is male, so he tends to pack clean pants, & a toothbrush. He uses my toiletries

When we go with the kids, then I pack about 6 large cases filled with general child clutter & nappies

Me OH and 2 kids have one piece of hand luggage each and did 2 weeks in spain last year - this year we're going for 18 days. I must admit it takes some thinking out but with a washing-machine it's fine and discourages me from taking all the stuff I used to. Mind you the kids are a bit oder now and all they need is a couple of books each a puzzle book and some felt tip pens.
