17yrs old pass test yesterday needs help!

The no claims bonus for named drivers cannot be transferred to other insurance companies so he would be stuck with Direct Line or have zero no claims bonus at the end of the year.
Only thing I can suggest is when getting quotes, put an older driver down as a secondary driver of the car. It's not illegal to do this if he is the main driver and is listed as the main driver. Even if the secondary person never drives it, it can sometimes help to reduce the policy price a little.
Like you say the most important thing to do is ensure the insurer knows he is the main driver. If they find out he is not, it is fronting, is an offence and with 17 year old boys they do take the time and effort to find out!
I was lucky when I passed my test that I managed to get on the insurance for only £600 more.0 -
TBH i'm with endsleigh and have been there for a few years and they are spot on, even after a guy pulled out of a junction into me . The renewal for endsleigh should be competitive in 6mth as they have been for me.0

My son managed to get a speeding fine shortly after passing his test, which didn't help the cost of insurance. Not suggesting that all young males race about, but it might be worth investing in one of those gadgets which warn of speed cameras.0

thanks everyone :beer::T:j
tried most of them now and i think its gonna be Endsleigh for me
under his OWN name , i am buying him a 02/03 clio or punto 1.2 type of car for 2k ish ...group 3 insurance.
Endsleigh now do a 6 months policy (my quote for a 1.2 clio is 1100ish inc the 'pass plus' he is taking this weekend and a 20% discount already) , the good thing about this 1/2yr policy is that ,when it finishes , the NCB comes out as tho he had it for a full yr , also by then he will be 18yr old!!! so hopefully , the next 1yr cost will be back to approx 1200 for ONE YR (after this original 6 months), 3rd party fire and theft of cos.
can anyone confirm that? its still really expensive for what it is ...but not alot of options left ...:o
How did you get on? I wouldn't count on it being approximately £1200.
My son got a car last February to learn to drive in. We paid nearly £1000 as a provisional licence and once he passed his test, we paid a further £900 to take him for the remainder of the year. His insurance is due up in February and I am in the process of getting quotes. Third party fire and theft with a years no claims, he will be 18 by the time his insurance is up and will have had a full licence for just over 5 months and the cheapest I am getting is just short of £2000.0 -
When i was younger (20) about 5 years ago, i had a nissan 100nx which was a reasonably quick little car. but only worth about £800.
To get a cheap quote I rang up and asked for fully comprehensive cover but with the biggest excess I could have, i got £5000 excess for my car worth about £800.
The 3rd party insurance will still pay out with no excess payment required from you should there be a "Fault" claim, so you are effectivly only getting 3rd party insrance but it will cost a hell of alot less this way than going for 3rd party only.
It worked out about 50% cheaper for me when i did it. Think the policy was with direct line. they may still be offering really high excesses so give em a try!0 -
hi , my son was very happy but im not now!

For a petrol car it's a powerful engine.
For a diesel car I don't think it is and I think it said 1.9d.
Not sure of the equivalent, but no I don't think it's oeverly powerful if diesel.0
