I am in S E London, and for over the last week I cannot get the temperature on my AGA up into the red zone. It's on Full blast.
My Mum is in South London cannot get her flat over 60f - with the heating on full.
On another forum, people I chat to in Norfolk and Manchester have the same problem.
Now I KNOW it is cold, but I should be able to brown a chicken in the AGA! The Victorian Gasometers at Bell Green Sydenham were both at ground level on Thursday evening, DH and I Have never seen them both that low.
Is the pressure reduced? Has the calorific value been cut? Are we about to run out of gas? Anybody heard anything.
Regards
Kate

I can't get my heating hot, if you get what i mean. I have the thermostat set at about 20, but if i turn it to see where it actually is, it clicks at about 15, and has been doing that for a few days.
Thought it was my thermostat needing attention, but perhaps not???:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

We are having problems with this at work and we are outside London.0

No expert on this, but fairly simple logic dictates that the *aggregate* burning temperature of a fuel has to be changed just by the quantity of fuel available, otherwise we wouldn't have gas ovens that regulate themselves by turning the valve up and down, rather than on or off. So I guess it follows that if for some reason the overall pressure was lower it could have some impact.
I *think* though that the overall gas network is kept at a reasonably constant pressure, and that the storage tanks do just that, store. It would be a bit like saying that if the national grid lost a power station then we'd get less volts out of the socket.....just doesn't work that way. (pureists can grumble about voltage fluctuations somewhere else.......)
But it's probably more likely that it's just f'ing cold at the moment and the systems just can't keep up. Isn't it nice to live in Britain??0 -

I'm having a similar problem but I'm hoping it's because I have just had the Aga's burner replaced rather than a gas pressure problem.
Do you normally get the temperature up into the red? I get quite anal about getting it bang-on the mid line.0 -
Hi - those gasometers are actually called "Gas Holders" cos that is what they do, hold gas. They are used for peak gas storage. Like everything else they are computer controlled whereby they empty at peak times and refill at off peak times ie at night. Seeing gas holders very low is not a problem, just a bit cold at the moment. Also they could be out of action for maintenance.
As for gas pressures. National Grid Transco are responsible for ensuring that the gas is in the pipes are the correct pressure, should you have any concerns then contact them as they can check the presures. Also they are responsible for the gas quality and cv. They are regulated to supply gas within a certain cv & wobbe range. cv being the heat content and wobbe being the gas content i.e. how it burns.
No we are not running out of gas, not yet anyway!!

Mine usually operates into the red - it's a pretty old Aga. Once it gets down into the silver range it is noticeably struggling to brown stuff in the oven, and takes forever to boil kettle or make toast brown. Usually it's only ever Christmas day that we notice it is down, and I compensate by turning it up a notch. It's on full blast (7) at the moment and not even into the red AT ALL and has been like this for about two weeks.
