Looking at showhomes

Hello,
Hope someone can answer this query- if you want to look round a showroom for a new development do the sales people ask you lots of questions about whether your house is yet on the market, what your buying position is etc, or can you just turn up and look around without any hassle? Also, are you supposed to go to a recption desk first or can you just go straight into the show home and nose around?
Thanks, Sarah

You go to the reception area first Sarah, or thats how its worked round here. I dunno about other areas but the ones i have been to view have been locked so that you cant just wonder in. If you are fortunate and they are busy, you might get to have a nosey round yourself but 9 times out of 10 they will accompany you. They are sales people at the end of the day.
We give as little info as possible, all we tell them when they ask is 'yes we have a house to sell, and its got to accomodate 5 people and a dog'. You dont have to tell them that if you dont want. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
if its a big development and they have a few different kind of houses ie. 2 bed 3 bed etc .. normally at the weekend its busy so ive managed to get a nosey round a few new estates that are popping up round were i live. its something to do on a cold day and its always made me grateful for what ive got lolThose we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,

Hi. We have been round many show homes in Manchester area. We go to the reception desk and they ask what price range and showed us on a map were the plots are. Then we have look around at out own pace. We have never been asked what are intention is or our situation at this stage.
We looked around for ideas for our home. Never to buy.0 -
We just always walk past the desk and give a nod in their direction, only if they actually stop us, do we answer (!) their questions. No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

LOL great minds think alike jockettuk!
Cheers for all your replies, I thought I'd be the only one who would want to have a nosey round new homes to dream of the house we hope to have one day, and to get decor ideas for our current home. It's nice to know others are like that too!

Don't forget to take your camera or at least a camera phone. Lots of decor ideas but you won't remember them all without photos.0 -

I though it was just me too! I am quite nosey LOL
I always marvel at how small they are, they never have all the stuff you find in normal lived in house and they seem to be increasingly on three floors now.
We tell them we are relocating up north, have sold our 5 bed detached in Surrey and are renting at the moment whilst looking around for the perfect property.0 -
If you just want decor ideas or just being nosey, please tell the rep. They really wont mind.
If you are looking seriously then talk to them, they wont bite like some car salesmen I know, and you may discover things you otherwise wouldn't have known about.
Above all, enjoy our show areas. They're our shop window and even if you dont like the showhome, by talking to our reps, you might just find something you do like!0 -
I confess I sometimes pretend I am looking for someone else - I invent a relative who is thinking of moving into the area, and say I am checking out possible new developments for them in advance. This always defuses any pushy sales people - there is no point in trying to sell to me, so I am usually left alone to browse. I also usually am given a helpful bundle of sales literature as well!
I did this even when I was looking to buy my own house - I can't stand being 'sold to'. Works a treat!
And yes, I know it's sneaky.......0 -
You lot must live near some reasonable developers. We were in a development called 'The Lakes' in Aylesford, Kent and they asked so many questions it is v annoying. Right down to "What's your favourite newspaper?" After all that the agent who took us round couldn't even answer our simple questions such as maintenance charges, whether there was an NHBC guarantee and how many years it was. Appalling! Next time we go to one we will insist on not giving any info until we want to.The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0
