  • Goals for last week were:

    1) Make DH's packed lunch every day YES 10/10
    2) Spend on nothing except essentials (milk etc) NOT ENTIRELY 6/10 - FOUND OUT HOW MUCH THE CAR WAS GOING TO COST TO BE REPAIRED AND IT WAS A SHOCK - BEER AND CHOCOLATE NEEDED!
    3) Start some work on my childminding assignment (think it needs to be submitted by the 22nd!) SUBMISSION ISN'T UNTIL THE 27TH BUT I'M DOING WELL AND HAVE ALL OF PART ONE WRITTEN JUST PART TWO TO GO 8/10
    4) Start some decluttering and sorting out toys (everywhere!) YES A BIT BUT NOT ENOUGH 5/10

    This week:

    1) Carry on with the tidying and de-cluttering
    2) Submit my OFSTED Forms
    3) Complete my assignment and hand in
    4) List a few bits on ebay (haven't done any for ages)

These don't sound strictly money-saving but are working towards a new job/income so hope they count! :D

It's interesting to see that I'm getting more motivated now I have to report back each week!

    1) - Get another three job applications in. NO, only got one application sent as I was at Mum's house for longer than I anticipated!

    2) - Research business idea while at Mum's house. YES.

    3) - Spend as little as possible, as going out for a meal with OH on Saturday. YES. Have only spent about £3 on non essentials!

    4) - Save at least one more 20p (can't afford to save any £2's this week.) YES, have saved £1.20.

    5) - Stick to diet for the week, apart from the meal out. Have had healthy meals all week (apart from last night) and more fruit, but still keep giving in to biscuits, so must try harder! Although I have lost 7lbs since I started at beginning of February, so at least I'm going in the right direction now!

    Goals for w/c 19th March

    1) - Save more 20p's as it's only two weeks until I go and see my favourite band and I really want to buy some merchandise as they don't tour very often!

    2) - List some more books on Amazon.

    3) - Get three job applications sent.

    4) - Start business plan and research possible grants/funding for part time business.

    5) - Continue with healthy eating. Phase out the biscuits and eat more fruit!

This is the end of my first real week here so no last week goals to report on but i have made some goals for this week

    1. Introduce myself on here in a more personal way.

    2. Close old bank account. Haven't used it in years and has hardly anything in it but it will all help the CC payment this week.

    3. Really sit down and begin to sort out finances and begin to find where i can cut back. :j

    From last week :

    1. Need urgently to phone receivers of company I used to work for to see if there is a glimmer of a chance of getting money I incorrectly paid to them back (please cross fingers everyone!)Phoned them but as you already know it wasn't completely good news

    2. Get back into the habit of preparing son's sandwiches (& mine) the night before so that I'm not spending money on school dinners/ supermarket bought sandwiches.Managed this - even if I did do them one day at 1.30am in the morning - don't ask why!

    3. Have at least 4 no spend days - should be ok on this one (provided I can manage (2), lol!) Well not sure about this - monday had to buy a few things that I couldn't get in the normal weekly shop, thursday didn't fancy cooking so got a (cheap) chinese and friday had to buy petrol (and ended up buying a magazine and chocolate) - so the jury's out on this one

    Goals for this week :

    1. Again prepare sandwiches the night before

    2. Have 3 no spend days

    3. Try and keep calm about the money that I hopefully will get back from teh receivers!

    4. Make a claim against Natwest (finally) against all the charges that they've made against hubby's account over the last 6 years

5 Possibly prepare a couple of things for putting onto ebay when they have a cheap(er) listing day.

    6. Change my weekly standing order so that it pays off hubby's Sky card which is now charging interest instead of the debt in my signature. ......hopefully this will only be for a few weeks as there's not much we couldn't transfer to existing cards.
    2014 Target;
    To overpay CC by £1,000.
    Overpayment to date : £310

    2nd Purse Challenge:
    £15.88 saved to date

I've had a fairly good week, here is my report!

Book an extra shift to work this weekend - DID THIS AND WORKED YESTERDAY
Start really looking into and drafting a plan for my disseration - NOT REALLY ATTEMPTED!
    2 no spend days - MANAGED ONLY1!
Do not spend the £2 coin in my purse! - YES IT IS STILL THERE AND GOING INTO THE POT IN A MO!
Perservere with DS2 potty training! - HAD A REALLY GOOD WEEK AND i THINK HE HAS CRACKED IT NOW!

My targets for this week are

    - 2 no spend days
    - pay another £350 off our debts
    - Pay the car tax before the budget to avoid any increase
    - Encourage DS1 to use his mobile less or we'll take him off the contract!
    - Go to the Halifax this week and check out their savings accounts, just found out our current liquid gold savings account is only giving us 0.95% gross. That is appalling, I can't believe that is right!

Good luck everyone have a good week

YAY, what a cool thread!! Can I join?

My goals for this week are:

    1. Phone Telewest and cancel the additional set-top box that is in our conservatory costing us £15 per month but hardly ever gets watched.

    2. Phone Barclaycard on Tuesday and take advantage of the 6.9% balance for life offer.

    3. CUT UP all credit cards. No "keeping one back for emergencies" rubbish.

    4. Taked packed lunch to work (I only work 3 days, and still can't manage this one LOL)

    5. List some items on Amazon.

I'll keep it simple until I get used to it.

I think the advice is to make sure you cancel any unwanted cards, not just destroy them, otherwise you still technically have the credit available. I think Martin mentions this in one of his articles - yup gottit - it's http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1098274211,85485, and well worth a read.
