Time left on passport

We are travelling to Majorca on 8 July and returning on 24 July. My son's passport expires on 9 September.
Does anyone have an idea of how long a passport still has to run to be able to travel on it?

for Spain it just needs to be valid when you arrive and leave

Passport validity
A valid British passport must be held for entry to and exit from Spain. There is no minimum passport validity requirement but you should ensure that your passport is valid for the proposed period of your stay.Ex forum ambassador

We once travelled to Spain and my son's passport had expired!! We were very lucky that the check-in clerk knew of a special agreement between the UK and Spain where this was allowed. His supervisor didn't know about it and had to go and look it up.
So you should be fine.
I now get my husband to check all our passports are valid about two months before each trip.

Has anyone ever been refused travel because they don't have enought time left on their passport?
I'm in the same boat as the OP (son's passport expires in less than 3 months) and we're travelling in 2 weeks!0 -

depends where youre going, some places it is 6 monthsmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
We're going to Majorca too.
I was just wondering if there any cases of someone being refused travel by their tour operator.
Our tour operator (First Choice) has a general policy of 6 months left on the passport, but the official line as confimed by the Foreign Office is that the passport just has to be valid for the duration of the stay.0 -
if you want peace of mind i think i would replace it. Have it tracked at the post office, they dont take very longmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

This is something that should be considered.
Your carrier can have a different policy to what our Foreign Office and your destination country have - but it is the carrier who decides whether you can travel with them or to deny you boarding.
When you renew your passport, any unused months (up to 9, I think) can be added onto your new passport so you don't lose out by renewing early.
Also, I think it may be more complicated to renew an EXPIRED passport than one that is still valid.0 -
the passport wont be checked when arriving in spain but uk pp control/ check in desk will see it, but as long as it is date you should be ok. have a good trip.0

What rubbish.
The Spanish are notorious for not bothering to check intra-EU flights, but they can and will still check them if they feel the need. There's also no UK exit control, so again - please check your facts before posting

Yet another one that needs to check her facts before posting.
Why would it be more complicated? From Poland...with love.
