Hi when you apply for a flex account(current) you can state when applying that you either want to be credit scored for a full visa debit or just apply for a basic cash card both cards are called flex.Hope this explains the differance if not ask away....:D

I'm aware of the difference. I already have a flexaccount with the Visa debit card, but as the cirrus cards are still fee-free worldwide I am looking for a way to get one of those too (hence my query about the cashbuilder account card). I have both a plain cash card and a Visa debit on my Abbey account, I wondered if the same was possible with Nationwide.

sorry didn`t want to it to come across like that,i was just trying to explain to others who dont understand them. You can apply for a cash card even if you already have the flex visa debit, but these will run as 2 separate accounts and have there own account numbers.Hope i have answered your question.:D

Your answer to my query appears to contradict the information on the NW website in the link sofa_surfer posted. It says you can only apply for a cashcard account if you don't already have a NW current account.

    No sweat, Tracey... ;)
I have two cash card accounts and one 3-in-1 VISA myself - received in that order.
This limitation was introduced last year, methinks. They've relaxed it a bitbecause it used to be '...if you don't hold a current account anywhere'.

Still a bit confused as to whether I can get one or not, as I am an existing blue card customer....without opening yet another account??

And is Cirrus as worldwide as Visa, what I mean is when I use ATMs abroad, will I still be able to use them all or the majority.

From what has gone before, my understanding is that we would need to open another account, but that's not allowed. :(

It's the Mastercard ATM network, equivalent to the Visa "plus" network, so yes, pretty much.

What's really needed is for NW to drop Visa and reissue their debit cards as Maestro (Mastercard debit).

yes annoying really, i have 2 bank accounts, 1 with HSBC (maestro) and 1 with nationwide (visa), HSBC is my current account, nationwide is my holiday money/savings account.

what i really need them to do is swap over companies, as when i use my hsbc card abroad hsbc charge me. maybe they could speak and do a swap! :rotfl:
