  • Hi Tracey We currently have a blue (Debit card) and ewe have previously used it to withdraw from ATM's in Oz and New Zealand. Will we now be charged for withdrawing cash from the ATM's?

I am surprised that the Cirrus card hasn't had more visibility on this site in view of the fact that you can use it world wide and there are no fees for cash withdrawls. It doesn't appear on Martin's best buy board for getting cash abroad, still only Abbey Zero- which I wouldn't use to withdraw cash or the NW debit card.

So how do you get one of these 'red' cards as both myself and my OH have blue ones?

    Hi all,
yes you will get charged 1% on all visa transactions outside the eu,that is either withdrawals or purchases. To apply for the cash card -(Red card)you can do it online or in any nationwide branch.Any new customers will need to take 2 forms of id like passport & utility bill(recent),you must prove your name &address id in 2 forms. The cash card is the basic current account.:D

hi just to tie up the confusion with Nationwide cards/charges,I actually work for nationwide. From 1st june 09 there will be a 1%visa fee added to holders(blue cards only & (credit cards-6th may) only outside the eu,we have not heard as yet about any charges in the eu.Blue flex card is a visa debit card,purple/red card is a cash card only this also can be used abroad but is free anywhere as the transations are via cirrus not visa, the cash card can only be used at cirrus atm machines. On all nationwide cards you will still get the commercial rate which means more in your pocket!Hope this has helped a little

On a related note, can a cashbuilder card be used in cirrus ATMs abroad?

hi the cashbuilder card can only have withdrawals from either a nationwide branch/nationwide atm or any link. This card dosn`t have the cirrus sign on back of card, has it is a savings account.:D

    Thanks. Another question:

Is it possible to hold both a cashcard and visa debit on the same flexaccount, or must one choose between the two?

Hi when you apply for a flex account(current) you can state when applying that you either want to be credit scored for a full visa debit or just apply for a basic cash card both cards are called flex.Hope this explains the differance if not ask away....:D
