Why not have a flatulence register or a bad breath register ..... it's becoming like a communist dictatorship where you can't take a pi$$ without a certificate of some kind. The market should itself regulate bad landlords, because they'd have no tenants, the thing is that it is the bad tenants that allow for bad landlords as there are plenty of renters that I wouldn't entertain because I know they'll cause me a ton of trouble there are plenty of DSS druggie tenants out there, who are the market in general for these !!!!!! holes.

Ah, but for the market to regulate itself effectively, we need to have fair and transparent information.

At the moment we have an information gap - tenants have no way of finding out in advance if their landlord is one of the good guys or a money-grabbing Rachman (or worse).

Wheras landlords have access to bank statements, job references and previous renting references, paid for at the tenants expense, to help them identify bad tenants..

Only a bad landlord would object to this register; good landlords should welcome it as it will mean less competition from rogues and so more tenants for them.

What does your post say about you, Kenny boy?

This was discussed a week ago on another thread.

I will give the same answer here as I did there.

Forget all the flowery stuff. The 'Register' is nothing other than a cross referencing sheet for the Inland Revenue.

Totally agree with this, but those who do tax returns have nothing to hide.

Its obvious what will happen here. The good landlords will sign up to it and the rogue ones wont. Dont see how they are going to get everyone to join. To big a job!!

Because there will be penalties for those that do not - but I can see the powers that be 'cocking up' this very much needed register in some way
