I don't know, maybe his wife to be didn't like his plans, or maybe he was worried about what you might get up to? scared no one would turn up, could be loads of things. But the 15 minute thing makes me think it was a bit of a row he was having and sent the texts in a strop.

God I've just been looking back at the last Leeds meet photos - only about a month before I split up with Stu. I look a fat frumpy mess. I'd made a real effort too, and Bunny had done my make-up, so I looked the best I possibly could, but I can see how bloated and miserable I was, even though I'm laughing.
