Nothing is growing.....

I say nothing.
The only thing growing from seed is Garlic and Horse raddish. The only other things we have had any success with, is the stuff we started in the greenhouse.
My guess is that the mice have eaten the seeds, (highly unlikely due to the the army of cats we own.) or the slugs are eating the new seedlings as they emerge from the ground.
We have done everything by the book, but are at a loss as to what could be causing this......

Do you want to tell us what won't come up? Sometimes it just happens like that, it could be the warm, dry weather, it has caused me some problems.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

And whereabouts you are in the country. In some areas the ground will still be a bit too cold and wet for sowing and planting into without some cloche protection.0

Here in the South West everything germinated as it should, however it does look like some verities stopped altogether or slowed down significantly like Cobra beans, Bedfordshire and Supsweet seed onions. I suspect that even with the sunny days the soil is not warm enough (this probably explain why the greenhouse seedlings do ok).
The wind in the last two days did a lot of damage to peas and other young plants like lettuce and cucumber especially due to fast drying of the soil and the obvious physical damage.Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

I just cannot get beans to germinate this year, I always germinate them on damp paper then transfer to loo rolls, three different types of beans, not one bean has shoots
I've got spare so am going to sow directly now.
Only got one out of three courgettes germinated, despite repeated sowing.
A whole row of parmex carrots hasn't come up. I do have 4 other rows of different carrots though.
And my oriental salad leaves are a disaster this year, grew like weeds last

My beetroot hasn't germinated. The carrots have a 50% success rate and these are stuff meant to be planted straight into the ground. The wind is whipping the rest of my plants to shred.

Some of the other stuff has been growing so not everything is a loss0 -
Carrots, leeks, cabbage, beetroot, parsnips and lettuce. And were in the West Mids, South/South East on the side of a hill.To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0

I have real trouble getting things to germinate in the ground. I have to start pretty much everything off in pots.
CArrots and parsnips are known to be hard to germinate0 -
Hi all
I have all my plants out now -although I do have them protected with windbreaks made from fleece
Lotus -I had a similar problem with peas, I set them in the loo roll tubes and the germination rate was terrible so I went out and just poked peas straight into the troughs of compost and they are doing fine
and so I decided to do the same with all my beans and the ones that went in first (bush beans) -they are all coming through and are just revealling their first leaves :T-21 through so far and more on the way...
my courgettes came through well -although I snapped one when I planted it out :rotfl:
I have found that things like kale, chard have germinated easily -but seem much slower to get going than last year ...but the caulis/brussels are doing brilliant...
Hopefully we will all end up with plenty of crops...just makes it more exciting wondering what is going to come through next

Tom, water the drill before you sow, then cover with MP compost, try sowing them all again. Add slug pellets at sowing and a few later when they are due to come through.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

they are still on the damp paper, I've never ever had a problem doing seeds this way before, very odd.
It's not the end of the world, I do find directly sown beans do much better more quickly that those sown inside. But I always have a major problem getting beans to germinate outside. And inside apparently as well
