New credit card application declined - experian

Hi

Just applied for a virgin credit card and it was declined, When I phoned to question as I thought I had a good credit history. I was told there was nothing of concern on there but apparently on my credit file with Experian they only hold a mobile phone account.

I explained that I had a bank loan and a barclaycard just recent and that it was showing on my equifax file they said that as they only use Experian it was no good.

I have my loan and credit card for about 3-4 months

strange how the credit companies and the CRA's work together, i have same thing where credit accounts appear on one agency but not the other, you would think is this age the credit companies would report the both Equifax and Experian giving a better indication of creditworthiness etc from the reports, but then i suppose there'd be no point in having 3 CRA's i surpose

there is no way u will get a card with virgin as thats too mainstream at the moment for u, try

you need to build ur rating for at least 18months - 2 years before jumping on these type of cards.
also try and not max out on cards.
also try and avoid too many application for credit and check voters roll registration

if ur equifax has more info, maybe u can try the following:
next directory
flybe mastercard through sygma bank after 6 months

I know it is so annoying because now I will have had a search on file for nothing, I wouldnt have done it if I didnt think I could get the card.

I already hold a next directory credit account which I had no problem in getting. I will leave it dont think I will use Virgin again to risky !!

yeah, u see i have only had credit for the last 18 mnths, but i kno it will pay off in the end.i am slowly moving to mainstream.

Martin's recent advice on TV prog. Quote a landline number if you have one, not just a mobile. CCs are sensitive to fraud risk of people with unregistered PAYG

Do you think it is worth appealing, The woman I spoke to last night was quite unhelpful.

Or shall I try and get a card with someone who just uses equifax and who would that be.

How long should I leave it now before applying again ..

I took the loan out 3 months ago as well as the card, The next catalogue was taken out 2 months ago
