Thanks.

If you know what specs you want, pay a visit to your local independent computer shop (ie not PC World). They will be able to advise you on a system to suit your needs and will custom build a system for you.
The staff will most likely not be on commission so you can be certain that they will be interested in what you want rather than how much they can make.0 -
Apple are good people to buy from. They have been top in the Personal Computer category of the American Customer Satisfaction Index for the last 5 years, and their lead is widening (they're a whopping 10 points ahead of their closest rivals Dell).
Check out Apple's Refurb Store, or find yourself a willing student who can avail of their education discount.
You don't mention a budget, so I assume you have an unlimited amount of money to spend.0 -
The question I always ask is , 'what do you want to do with your PC?
You wouldn't go to a motoring board and say "I want a new car-what make/model should I buy?"
Without knowing what your requirements are it's impossible to offer any advice. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
No. If your needs are reasonably simple, you may be able to get new life out of your existing rig for little or no expense using a variant of linux. I would recommend Ubuntu, who have brilliant support on their forums. You can change just about anything in the settings. You may also want to look at distrowatch to see the most popular flavours from around the world.
As I say, we really need to know what you need to be doing, and we can work out what you need from there.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0 -

Correct. Tell Us what you would be using the computer for. Money to Spend.
If you were just using the computer for basic writing letters , general web browsing. Then a fairly low-cost computer would be acceptable.
But if you want it for gaming, video editing. High resolution. Then You need a budget of a good £500 - £800. an then if you got a budget of say £1000 + then specs are no problem.
Then if you are willing to build it yourself. Or have a built one.
I Personally Wouldn't Recommend a Apple computer they are generally expensive and hardware isn't as great as what you can get in a PC.You should probably be waiting a few months longer if you mean PC as in Windows. The new Microsoft Windows 7 operating system is due out this Autumn and seems to be better regarded than Vista.
Yer, If you are Planning to do this. WAIT till Windows 7 Comes out, It has got good reviews so far and due out within the year.Peter: Hey Lois... what's this word? Lois: Evil. Peter: And this one? There's rather more to hardware than the size of a computer's HDD.
But, let's not turn this into a Mac vs PC thing.
i ment in general you could get more for your money with a pc than a mac. but yet lets not get into a PC V's MacPeter: Hey Lois... what's this word? Lois: Evil. Peter: And this one? Lois: Knievel. Peter: And this one? Lois: Was. Peter: And this one? Lois: Born. Peter: And this one? Lois: In.
