Just wondered if it is OK/safe to burn old varnished floor boards on a wood burning stove or if they will make a mess of the glass etc
    Thanks

It won't make a mess of your glass but many will advise against it due to the potential release of toxic fumes. It doesn't bother me personally. I burn all sorts of stuff on my stove now and again.

    navig8r Love your stove picture.

Looks very inviting! Can you tell me what the area around and behind the stove is rendered with. We are going to change our open fire to a stove later in the year and are watching the posts on this topic with great interest.

    We use lime rendering.

    Thanks for the response.

What proportions of sand, cement & lime do you use for this rendering mix? Is it likely to crack with the heat? I have been looking at a heat resistent screed & plaster mix which appears quite expensive. If this mix is a viable alternative it would be great.

There is 7.5" clearance, sides and back of stove..lime mortar mixed 3 sand to 1 lime and no cement! the coating colour is some leftover Sandtex High Build that was used on the exterior of our house. It is highly flexible and stops the soft surface from powdering..must be doing a good job because its been on for about 12 years.

We're in the process of renovating our very very old cottage. Yesterday our HETAS man knocked the bricked fireplace & exposed a beautiful inglenook fireplace Father Christmas would be happy to see! including a huge beam (which I don't think is salvageable) and a little cast iron oven surrounded by red bricks. Don't think its safe so that will be removed along with tonnes of rubble. Also included is a little alcove where we can store our logs.

Down to the nitty gritty - the price of a multi fuel burner. I like the Hunter Herald 8 style with the flat top for approx £969 but I prefer the price of the Charnwood Country 8 style (flat top again) for approx £825. Not much difference bit it will buy me slate tiles for the flooring!

Is it worth going for the more expensive one? I need an output of about 8kw cos we have a large living/dining room.

    Does anyone have with stove?

Is there a name on the oven door,We had one with coalbrookdale on it and sold it for £220 on the www.salvo.co.uk website which would go a good way towards a new stove.

  • Would anybody be willing to share roughly what the cost was to hook up their wood burning stove to the hotwater / central heating ?

We have been to 2 different stove shops and the owners have said its not worth it, however we know people who have them and they say hooking them up to the hot water is the best thing they have done.

Has anyone used the morso stoves, any good?

    Cheers Rob
