Suzuki Swift are fabulous, My FIL had one and he used to do a lot of motorway driving. His only problem was that it wasn't big enough for what he needed and he got rid.

Said it handled like a go-kart:confused::rotfl:

Sorry! but I do feel better now. I just get riled by hype.

Mazda 2 excellent choice. Also on the Fiesta people are looking at list price. I havn't paid at least £2000 (sometimes £4000) under list for my last 5 new cars and they were not brands that are as well known as Ford for discounts.. I would give some poor Ford salesman a right mugging right now, within an inch of his bottom line Haha!

The Fiat 500 is a wonderful car, and I'm much rather have one than anything made by the French or Germans. Fiat may not be the top of pops when it comes to reliability but they are ahead of what many people would associate as better brands and at least their rather good looking and ok priced. The Polish made models (Panda,500 and Ford KA) are really well made cars, far ahead of the Italian built stuff.

Urgh! Fiat 500 it looks like a silly little retro toaster on wheels, fortunately the OP is female so can get away with it but seeing some bloke driving one of those milk sick off white colour ones is appalling - they look a right ponce.

and Arbarth? thats just the SAME car with harder ride and a tune up for people too embarrassed to admit they drive a FIAT, well your fooling no one in the pub with your Abarth blah blah heritage - its still 99.9% a FIAT mate - it just feels quick because your in a shoddy little toaster and if it hits a pebble in the road you will probably die. Exciting!

To the OP please don't make life hard for yourself buying something thats more about what people think of you than how much confidence you have in just being who you are. Plenty of better cars around, plenty.

THANK YOU! It's an honest opinion like this that I NEED! If I'm completely honest with myself, I know this car isn't right for me. I do too much motorway driving and it just doesn't seem to be up for the job. I loved the looks but I guess you shouldn't make such a huge purchase on that point alone!

Huge thanks to everyone for your suggestions, they're really helpful. :)

The thing about a car is that it can look like an a Pink Space shuttle on the outside but you only see the inside. A bit of space and a pleasant driving experience are what really matters, believe me I had a Yellow Volvo once for a laugh!!! but inside - it was beige like any other Volvo (and unsurpassed in comfort)

Like people buy Mini's because they are too mean to give anyone a lift, unless your mates want to turn up somewhere in the back of it looking like vacuum packed tuna chunks.

I always advise people to buy as big as they can manage, carrying a bit of empty space is no issue, but trying to get a self assembly shelving unit and a bargain pack of 24 toilet rolls from Tesco is!

Whatever your interested in haggle hard! look up every dealer withing 100 miles on the manufacturers website and email the sales managers the same email 'what offer are you prepared to make me?' let them fight over you.

Unfortunately I don't think my car will last that long! I want to sort a new one before end of June anyway as my tax runs out then. Thanks though!

Sillygoose, thanks for all your advice, you're like the voice of reason! I have grown accustomed to 5 doors with my current car and I must admit having the extra space does make a difference. I will go hardcore this weekend and launch an attack on the dealerships! :rotfl:

They told me the 500 C should be launched in June, I have already ordered a normal one but they said I could change the order if I like the convertible better....
If it is in June I think the scrappage money will still be available?
