I'll place my bet on the EGR valve. Heh.0

Behave yourselves.....;)
By the way how is your EGR valve JB?0 -
not sure if it works on an 04 diesel, but certainly works on my '00 Astra petrol..foot on accelerator and brake, push both down and then turn ignition to "2"..DO NOT START.
My fault lamp then flashes out the error code in a sequence, that you can cross reference on https://www.topbuzz.co.uk and similar.
Mine did 10 flashes, then 4, then ten twice. 10=0, so it was a 0400 code - EGR valve.
That narked my Vauxhall dealer who was bleating on about "bring it in for diagnostic testing". "sorry, no - not needed. Done."0 -

It's not always wise to mention your 'flashing' on these threads - there are some odd people about.......Genie

Bang On! Just had the mech call me earlier and said the fault code was for 2 duff glow plugs so is going to replace all 4 anyway. (with genuine parts of course).
Also said there was an old 1 non-active fault record for the egr valve but wasnt gonig to act on this yet as it was not active, hopefully wont come back up again. quoted £90+Small amount of work for this - genuine vauxhall part. Is this about right? He said price was slightly higher for this model.
Sir Bendy, Thanks - I tried this a week ago after readign it on a car forum but doesnt work on my corsa? Oh well. He gave me a discount on the service anyway!0 -
I'm whipping the EGR off mine and blanking the thing off. It's come up twice, and I'm not about to pander to it. Vauxhall themselves admit there's a software update for my engine to turn the thing off anyway, so that's good enough for me..;)0

We used to block off the EGR valve of early petrol Vectra's and Omega's. Fixed the problem and lasted a few years too!0
