Car Service - Worries!

Hi There. :j

My car (04 Corsa 1.3 Diesel) goes in for a service on Thursday.

Now got a good garage & good price but im concerned about the below things with the car. The mechanics going to chekc them out but didnt know if anyone had any suggestions as to what it might be to maybe put my mind at rest.

Any advise is always appreciated :rotfl:

1) Car steering wheel judders when on motorway or car goes over 70 mph? (think this is wheel balancing - anyone know how much this usually costs)
2) Engine electrics light comes on (car with spanner) when dirivng. always goes out on restart. Usually comes back on again within a few minutes of drivign but occasionally doesnt come on or comes on later. Doesnt have any effect on the car i can feel and it doesnt go into limp/slow mode. Surely this cant be anything major in that case? Mechanic is gonig to do a diagnostic but anyoen got any suggestions and again how much it might cost?

Thanks for reading. Ill let you know how i get on Thursday too.

Ben

    1. Maybe a tenner to have it rebalanced at a tyre place (most mechanics don't have the kit for balancing wheels)
    2. Could be anything from very cheep (cleaning a sensor) to very expensive (new cat)

1.)Thing is though you'll need to get at least the front wheels balanced, possibly the back wheels too. It's normally included when new tyres are fitted, so if your tyres are in need of replacement shortly it might be cheaper to wait.

    2.) Or Lambda sensor

Is it likely to be something this expensive though if it has no running effect on the car? Thinking positively :)

The steering wheel judder over 70mph is a Government mechanical device that stops motorists from speeding. So to stop the car juddering at over 70 the simple sollution is to drive with in the law.

As for the spanner light on. As it's a Vauxhall it will most likely be a worn out glow plug. And cost about a tenner.

I am sure the symptom was only experienced on the OP's private race track:D

I was flummoxed for a bit at the start of the thread when it said about costs for 'below items'. Thought you had exhaust problems, or the undershields were missing .. :D

Have to get the car code read and find out why the spanner light is on - may help to read your handbook and see what is says. Generally, if the engine management light is on, quite often it is an 02 sensor. Until it is diagnosed, we are all guessing.

    JB - it's a Vauxhall, so it'll be a duff glow plug.
