I have just returned from France and received my Orange bill, which includes £9.35 data charges for 3.7 megabytes. I phoned customer service and told them that I didn't open any internet connections on the phone during my stay. I am sure of this because in March, again in France I accidently opened the browser (for about 10 secs) and was charged £6 for the priveledge!
I was told I opened it at a specific time and day. I didn't open it at all, however, can't prove that.
I was then told that it may be because I have my hotmail account in my bookmarks and as it is checking for new mail, it uses megabytes. Anyone heard of this, or if not what could be causing this, because I didn't open the Internet (we have the Internet at our apartment, which is where I was when they said I opened it!)
Finally, if it is true, how can I disable the Internet as I don't want to pay for something I'n not using (the cost of calls is bad enough!)
Cheers David

I think its up to you to determine what you have installed on your phone that may have accessed the internet. Things like weather widgets, etc...often get their updates via a web connection. I would investigate this first, alternatively ask Orange for details of what ip/sites were accessed during those times. They should have a log of it which may help to confirm what application on your phone is at fault.0

Could be anything - pressig the key in error while in pocket most likely if you say you didnt use it. God knows why a simple change by manufacturers of phones to password protect internet app is not there.
To disable it - change your internet settings basically to something duff - so its not pointing to your network provider.0 -
Thamks. Makes you wonder how much money these networks make on things like this. They should have some form of warning to people that just having internet available on your phone can cost you money, even if you don't use it!0
